Purpose of the Role The Medical Summariser will play a critical role in ensuring accurate, up-to-date, and clinically relevant patient records within a paper-light, digital-first practice environment. This position involves reviewing, summarising, and Read-coding patient medical records, supporting GPs with correspondence management, and contributing to the smooth running of administrative and clinical systems. The post-holder will work independently and collaboratively, strictly adhering to practice protocols and safeguarding procedures. Key Responsibilities Medical Records Summarising Review patient medical records and produce accurate summaries of medical history Identify clinically significant information, including high-risk or safeguarding issues, and refer appropriately to clinical staff Read-code relevant information into the practice clinical system in line with practice protocols Reorganise and prepare records for summarising, including filing and retrieving paperwork Administrative Support - Manage incoming correspondence, including hospital letters, patient communications, and reports - Monitor patient call and recall systems - Support the administrative team with workflow management to ensure timely completion of tasks Quality Assurance and Monitoring - Maintain high standards of accuracy and data integrity - Monitor progress of notes summarising against practice targets - Identify areas for improvement in administrative processes and contribute to solutions Skills and Competencies Previous experience in medical summarising, clinical administration, or healthcare support Strong computer literacy and proficiency in practice management systems Excellent attention to detail and accuracy in data entry Good organisational skills and ability to manage workload independently Effective communication skills, with a professional and courteous approach to colleagues and patients Ability to work collaboratively as part of a multi-disciplinary team Knowledge of safeguarding principles and confidentiality in healthcare Person Specification Self-motivated and proactive, able to prioritise tasks effectively Forward-thinking, with an interest in process improvement and digital systems Reliable, conscientious, and committed to providing high-quality work Flexible and adaptable to changing work demands Training and Development Induction into the practices summarising protocols and clinical systems Ongoing opportunities for professional development, including coding, record management, and administrative skills Safeguarding and Confidentiality This post involves access to sensitive patient information.
