Here at Hays, we are partnering with a national public sector body to recruit an Operations Assistant on a temporary basis. This is a 12-week assignment supporting the Business Management team with the smooth running of national research. This is a varied and fast-paced role where you will support the delivery of the corporate management function.

This role would suit a highly organised, customer‑focused administrator who thrives in a fast‑paced environment and enjoys supporting colleagues across a wide range of operational tasks. It's ideal for someone proactive, adaptable and confident using technology, with the ability to manage deadlines and contribute positively to a collaborative team.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Providing high‑quality administrative support across the function.
  • Acting as a first point of contact for queries and supporting colleagues across the organisation.
  • Coordinating starter and leaver processes, including equipment, system access and induction.
  • Supporting office operations and facilities to ensure a well‑run working environment.
  • Leading on technology‑related queries and delivering training to staff.
  • Providing health and safety support, including organising committee meetings and providing secretariat duties.
  • Managing office consumables such as stationery and catering supplies, ensuring purchasing procedures are followed.

Experience Required:

  • Proven experience in a fast-paced, customer service focused role.
  • Strong organisational skills, able to prioritise effectively and meet tight deadlines.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with confidence working with colleagues and stakeholders.
  • Ability to work independently, use initiative and know when to seek guidance for more complex issues.
  • A positive and flexible approach, with the ability to support change and work collaboratively.
  • Strong IT skills, with experience using word processing and spreadsheet software and the ability to learn new systems.
