Your new company
Our client is a highly respected defendant law firm with offices nationwide. They are currently recruiting for a Healthcare Advisory Associate with 3+ PQE to join the Birmingham office on a hybrid basis.
Your new role
You will work as an Associate within the firm's specialist Medical Law team, dealing with highly sensitive, complex and urgent healthcare matters. The role involves work across Court of Protection, medical treatment decisions, healthcare advisory, mental health and mental capacity law, inquests, and Judicial Reviews. You will advise a wide range of healthcare stakeholders, including NHS organisations, primary care bodies, independent hospital groups, healthcare practitioners, and malpractice insurers.
Responsibilities:
- Manage urgent Court of Protection applications, including treatment declaration cases.
- Advise clients on Mental Capacity Law, Mental Health Law, consent, best interest decisions and DoLS (Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards)
- Represent healthcare organisations at inquests and support Judicial Review matters.
- Provide strategic healthcare regulatory and advisory guidance on complex, time‑critical issues.
- Collaborate with colleagues across multiple UK and international offices within the wider Medical Law group.
What you'll need to succeed
- Qualified solicitor or Chartered Legal Executive
- 3+ years of relevant UK experience in medical law, healthcare litigation or healthcare advisory.
- Strong understanding of Court of Protection, urgent medical decision‑making, capacity and mental health law, DoLS, and inquests.
- Experience from either claimant/patient or defendant/hospital perspectives is welcomed.
- Excellent drafting, analytical and communication skills, with the ability to handle sensitive and urgent cases.
