We are seeking an experienced and dynamic Allied Health Professional (AHP) to take up the role ofAHP Lead and Clinical Manager (Band 8a)within our Community Mental Health Services service North East and West Essex.
This senior leadership position provides professional leadership, operational management, and strategic development of AHP services across designated localities and teams. The role ensures high clinical standards, equitable service delivery, and effective workforce development, while contributing to modernised models of care aligned with Trust values: We Care, We Learn, We Empower.
You will work closely with Directors, Service Leads, AHP Professional Leads, and Team Managers to coordinate high‑quality, patient‑centred AHP services across community pathways.
This post provides leadership across the North East and West Essex Care Groups and therefore requires a flexible presence across both areas. The formal base may be negotiated as either Severalls House, Colchester or St Margaret’s Hospital, Epping; however, the post holder will be expected to travel routinely between sites to ensure equitable service delivery, professional visibility, and effective operational oversight.
• Coordinate and manage AHP services including recruitment, appraisal, supervision, performance, and CPD planning.
• Provide strong and visible professional leadership to AHP staff across teams and localities.
• Ensure equitable, high‑quality service delivery across all areas of responsibility.
• Maintain compliance with statutory requirements including Health & Safety, Risk Management.
• Lead the implementation and development of AHP practice models and contribute to the delivery of modernised treatment pathways.
• Manage financial and physical resources associated with AHP clinical delivery.
• Lead quality improvement, service evaluation, audit, and clinical governance processes.
• Promote effective multidisciplinary working and positive partnership relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
• Provide expert professional advice and represent AHP services at Trust and external forums.

Main Duties of the Role:
Operational Responsibilities
• Lead and coordinate the planning and delivery of AHP services across teams and sites.
• Implement and monitor Trust-wide and profession-specific AHP policies and procedures.
• Develop local AHP policies and contribute to wider strategic and professional initiatives.
• Ensure robust budget management, monitoring expenditure and resource use.
• Manage complaints processes, sickness/absence procedures, and operational performance.
Clinical Responsibilities
• Ensure AHP services provide evidence‑based, recovery‑focused, high‑quality clinical care.
• Support and develop structured AHP treatment programmes that meet local needs.
• Maintain strong clinical governance systems including supervision, CPD and outcome monitoring.
• Identify clinical service needs and lead service modernisation and development.
• Provide professional advice and support for AHP staff across all levels.
Quality, Audit & Governance
• Lead and contribute to quality improvement initiatives involving patients, carers, and stakeholders.
• Support the use of outcome measures and evidence‑based evaluation across AHP practice.
• Encourage participation in clinical audit, research, and service development projects.
• Ensure clear oversight and implementation of clinical governance requirements.
Communication & Administration
• Use highly developed communication skills including negotiation, persuasion, and sensitive handling of complex issues.
• Maintain high‑quality written and verbal communication systems across all AHP teams.
• Ensure accurate record keeping, reporting and information governance compliance.
• Develop and oversee operational and business planning for AHP services.
• Ensure regular service meetings and clear dissemination of key information.
Professional Development
• Support and contribute to AHP education and training programmes.
Maintain HCPC standards and ensure all AHP staff engage in appropriate CPD, supervision and appraisal.
• Participate in mandatory training and maintain an up‑to‑date professional development portfolio.
