Applications are invited for a part time substantive consultant post in Paediatric Metabolic Medicine at Bristol Royal Hospital for Children. This exciting permanent 7 PA post has arisen out of a need to deliver safe and sustainable care to paediatric patients across the Southwest. Bristol Royal Hospital for Children provides multiple tertiary and quaternary services for paediatric patients and has the only Paediatric Intensive Care Unit in the region.
We are seeking an enthusiastic individual to join our dedicated consultant team, and to be part of our well established and supportive specialist multidisciplinary team. The postholder will share equally in consultant responsibilities for delivery of the service. This includes the provision of on call, the responsibility of running the cross regional service for Inherited Metabolic Disease, working collaboratively with primary and secondary care, and the provision of outreach clinics to Bath, Taunton, Exeter, Torbay, Plymouth, and Cornwall.
• To support and increase consultant level delivery of tertiary services to metabolic inpatients and outpatients in Bristol and across the South West of England.
• To support the development of tertiary services as part of a managed clinical network for the South West of England.
• To ensure that the service conforms to the highest clinical standards in the investigation, diagnosis and management of children with IMD.
• To support the development of effective two-way communication between specialist centre and local hospitals, other professionals, patients and their families.
• To support the provision and the development of metabolic outreach clinics in secondary care centres across the South West
• To work closely with specialist clinical biochemistry
• To provide clinical support for the newborn screening programme
• To support transitional care service provision for patients with IMD.
• To support the provision of 24/7 specialist consultant cover across the South West
1. To participate in a 1 in 4 on call rota during the working week with the existing consultants
2. To participate in a 1 in 8 rota on weekends with the existing consultants and the West Midlands metabolic service on weekends
• To liaise closely with patient support groups.
• To maintain their general metabolic skills
