Temporary Library & Archive Assistant
Location: Near Holborn Station
Duration: 8 weeks - 4 days per week Tuesday to Friday
Start: Immediate
Rate: Up to £14 per hour
A membership organisation based close to Holborn Station is seeking a Temporary Library & Archive Assistant to support the Library and Archive team, as well as to assist visitors using the library and Reading Room. This role requires excellent attention to detail, strong customer‑service skills, and the ability to work accurately with heritage materials.
Key Responsibilities:
- Supervise the Reading Room facilities, coordinating closely with the Librarian and Archivist.
- Invigilate the Reading Room to prevent theft of collection items and ensure that all resources are handled safely and correctly.
- Retrieve materials for readers and re‑shelve items accurately after use.
- Provide access to book supports, weights, and other handling equipment as required.
- Register new readers and ensure they are aware of, and adhere to, Reading Room rules.
- Administer and process photocopying and scanning requests, including taking payments and issuing personal photography licenses.
- Perform other duties as required by management.
The ideal candidate will be available to start immediately and will bring experience from a library or archives background. They should be confident working with heritage materials, providing reader support, and maintaining a calm, well‑organised research environment.
