If so we have an exciting opportunity for a highly motivated Theatre Practitioner Band 5 to join our team in Day Surgery at Liverpool University Hospitals - Aintree.
Liverpool University Hospitals - Aintree site are looking to recruit full and part time Operating Department Practitioners and Theatre practitioners who wish to develop their skills within the Day Surgical Unit. As an ODP or Theatre Practitioner with us , you will enjoy a multi - speciality role rotating between four Theatres and two Treatment rooms, covering a diverse range of specialities that include Ambulatory Trauma, ENT/MFU, Ophthalmology, Digestive diseases , Urology, Colorectal, Dermatology and Vascular, to facilitate in the delivery of high standards of care.
We are looking for a flexible Practitioner who delivers the highest standard of perioperative care to their patients, with a keen interest in developing their existing skills and organisational qualities together with motivation and vision necessary to support and deliver high standards of care within our busy Day Surgical Unit. The main duties of this post remain within the day surgical unit however here at the Aintree site we have 20 operating theatres across four departments which cover a wide variety of surgical specialties. The Trust is part of the Liverpool Head and Neck Centre (LHNC), Major Trauma Centre Collaborative (MTCC), a partnership between Liverpool University Hospitals and The Walton Centre NHS Foundation Trust and is the regional Major Trauma Centre for the North West, providing the full range of services and clinical expertise.
The post holders will need to be able to work as part of the multidisciplinary team helping to provide patients with the highest level of care as well as being able to work as an individual practitioner during their daily practice. As a single site major Trauma Centre for the North West we provide a 24/7 emergency service and staff will be required to participate in this cover when needed and upon reaching a level of competency, to join the 'On Call' allocation which provides 24/7 emergency trauma surgery cover.

Perform comprehensive assessment of patient care needs.
Plan, implement and evaluate care according to changing health care needs.
Supervise and support team members.
Collect, collate and report information, maintaining accurate patient records and theatre documentation.
Involve multidisciplinary team and where possible patients, carers /relatives in the planning and delivery of care.
Establish and maintain effective communication with multi- disciplinary team and patients carers/relatives.
Recognise and respond appropriately to urgent and emergency situations.
Seek/act on advice from team leader/speciality leader, or relevant other.
Where the Practitioner holds a degree level operating department
qualification, they will provide a high standard of individualised care of the patient and demonstrate knowledgeable advanced clinical competence, beyond those associated with conventional Theatre roles. They will perform duties associated with that of a Surgical Assistant. This will be achieved whilst practicing within the parameters set by professional / Local Trust policies and guidelines. Further training in practice is compulsory, to develop from assisting for superficial elective cases to potentially all surgeries. This training will be supported by preceptorship with a comprehensive assessment process.
