This could be your chance to make a real impact — now, and long term.

A highly regarded post-16 school setting in Southwark is looking to appoint a STEM Graduate Teaching Assistant to support its growing Maths, Science and Technology departments. This role is ideal for graduates in Mathematics, Sciences, Engineering or Computing who want meaningful classroom experience, with the option to train as a qualified teacher from September 2026.

The role

You’ll work alongside specialist teachers delivering a broad and ambitious STEM curriculum, including A-level and applied pathways in Maths, Biology, Chemistry, Physics and Computing. The curriculum is designed to stretch high-achieving students while also supporting those who need confidence-building and targeted academic intervention.

Your role will involve:

• Supporting lessons across STEM subjects
• Delivering small-group and 1:1 interventions to address gaps in learning
• Helping students master complex concepts and exam technique
• Supporting learners with additional needs through adaptive strategies
• Acting as a positive academic role model for students aiming for university, apprenticeships or STEM careers

Curriculum & outcomes

This setting is known for:

• Strong academic results and improving progress measures
• High progression rates into Russell Group universities, STEM degrees, higher apprenticeships and professional pathways
• A calm, purposeful learning environment with excellent student behaviour

As part of a successful national family of schools, staff benefit from shared expertise, high-quality resources and a proven record of developing graduate and trainee teachers.

Progression & training

This role is particularly well suited to those considering teaching. You will receive:

• Outstanding mentoring and classroom support
• Structured development opportunities throughout the year
• A clear pathway to teacher training from September 2026 (PGCE, Schools Direct or salaried routes)
• Strong references and preparation for interviews and training placements

Why apply?

• Use your STEM degree in a people-focused, high-impact role
• Gain excellent post-16 classroom experience
• Join a setting with a strong academic culture and clear values
• Be supported every step of the way into teacher training
• Earn £25k–£30k (term-time only)
