We're looking for a IVR and Structures Highways Maintenance Apprentice to join our Transportation Team based in Birmingham, working towards a Level 2 apprenticeship in Highways Maintenance.

Location: Thimble Mill Lane Depot, Birmingham
Hours: 40 hours per week
Salary: £20,800
Start Date: September 2026

How does an apprenticeship work?
As a IVR and Structures Highways Maintenance Apprentice you'll be enrolled onto a Level 2 apprenticeship in Highways Maintenance, giving you the opportunity to earn whilst you learn. You'll work closely with the Transportation team support in the overall design, build and maintenance of infrastructure for highways with a common goal of connecting people
Your day to day will include:
-Learn how to operate vehicles and plant requiring specialist skills, including undertaking daily vehicle checks, routine maintenance (e.g. oil, water, wiper fluid) and cleaning; and to ensure defect reports are competed and submitted
-Develop skills to support with all aspects of highway Fencing maintenance works
-Support in all aspects of highway maintenance works including routine and cyclical maintenance activities and minor civils works
-Taking responsibility for the safety of yourself and others within your team to ensure compliance with the relevant health and safety legislation and safe operation to protect members of the public
-Keep records, complete all necessary paperwork, communicate and liaise with other employees of Amey, sub-contractors, the emergency services, the police, the general public, clients and customers
What are we looking for?
The role of IVR and Structures Highways Maintenance Apprentice is great for you if you:
-Are 18 years or older by the time the position starts
-Have GCSEs at grades 3 - 9 (GCSE D or above) including Maths and English OR Functional Skills level 1 in English and Maths
-Are punctual, self-motivated, and willing to learn
-Have the ability to handle physical work in varying weather conditions
