Open Door Project CIC is seeking a Community English (ESOL) Tutor to support women from migrant and refugee backgrounds to develop confidence, communication skills, and independence through English learning.
About Open Door Project CIC
We provide a safe, welcoming, women-only space where women can learn, connect, and grow. Our approach is trauma-informed, culturally sensitive, and rooted in kindness, dignity, and empowerment.
About the role
You will plan and deliver informal, learner-centred English sessions focused on practical, everyday language. Learners may have varied levels of English, educational backgrounds, and confidence, so flexibility and empathy are essential.
You will:
• Deliver engaging ESOL sessions focused on speaking, listening, reading, and writing
• Adapt activities to suit different learning levels and needs
• Create a supportive, non-judgemental learning environment
• Encourage confidence, participation, and peer support
• Work alongside bilingual and learning support staff where needed
About you
We are looking for someone who is:
• Kind, patient, and reliable
• Confident working with adult learners
• Passionate about community learning and inclusion
• Respectful of different cultures, experiences, and backgrounds
Experience & qualifications
• ESOL teaching or tutoring experience is helpful but not essential
• Community work, volunteering, or lived experience welcomed
• Formal teaching qualifications are desirable but not essential.
Languages especially welcome
Urdu, Hindi, Punjabi, Arabic, Tigrinya, Turkish, Farsi/Dari, Pashto, Sudanese Arabic, Romanian, Lithuanian, Ukrainian
