About the Role
An opportunity has arisen for a Supervisor to join our Operational Highways team at Leicestershire County Council, the primary function of this role is to actively engage with stakeholders, both internally and externally, and facilitate and support the effective delivery of Traffic Management across the county.
As Supervisor, you will manage and lead a dedicated team of Traffic Management Operatives to deliver a professional cost-effective service as well as supporting the wider service when required, ensuring proactive planning of this service across the County’s highways to nationally agreed standards, Safety & Street Works and Road Works / Chapter 8. The role will also assist the Highway Works Manager with employee selection, recruitment, induction, training and development, attendance management, monitoring and disciplinary procedures.
The nature of the work may involve you carrying out work outside of normal working hours and at different locations than your designated base, there may at times need to be a flexibility within the role to support operations.
This role is a “safety critical post” and, consequently, subject to random drug and alcohol testing in accordance with our policies and procedures. A copy of our Substance Testing Policy, Procedure and Guidance is available upon request.
About You
To apply for this post, you must be able to evidence in your application how you meet the following criteria:
- The following qualifications are essential: Management or supervisory qualification (e.g. NVQ Level 3 in Supervisory Management),/ New Roads and Street Works Act supervisory qualification, / IOSH, NEBOSH or equivalent H&S qualification. The following qualifications are desirable: Lantra Traffic Management Qualification – 12 A/B/C ./ NHSS 12D M7 – Managers client officers / 12C Planning Officer
OR you have demonstratable evidence of relevant skills and experience - Experience of working in the highway maintenance and construction industry and managing a team and efficient depot operation.
- Experience of problem solving and analysing information, project management and proactive planning and organisation.
- The ability to plan, organise and prioritise work within tight time scales and to budget.
- The skills to apply H&S requirements into the working environment
- Good interpersonal communication and people management skills; you remain calm and positive in challenging circumstances.
- Can converse at ease with customers and provide advice in accurate spoken English; this is essential for the post.
