Tutor & Mentor Required - 1:1 Support for 16-Year-Old Student (SLCN / DLD)
Location: Basingstoke district (face-to-face delivery only)
Hours: 10 hours per week
Duration: Until Summer 2026
Start Date: As soon as possible
The Council is seeking an experienced Tutor and Mentor to provide one-to-one, in-person support for a 16-year-old learner with Speech, Language and Communication Needs (SLCN) and a formal diagnosis of Developmental Language Disorder (DLD). This role will take place within the Basingstoke district and offers a rewarding opportunity to support a young person over a sustained period.
The student presents with significant challenges in the following areas:

Understanding vocabulary, extended language, and complex sentence structures

Auditory memory and processing verbal information

Using spoken language for reasoning, inference, prediction, and structured explanations

Social communication, including forming and maintaining relationships

A Speech and Language Therapy assessment conducted in July 2023 confirms a diagnosis of Developmental Language Disorder, a lifelong neurodevelopmental condition affecting receptive and expressive language skills. Support strategies should be informed by the student's Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP) and Speech and Language Therapy (SaLT) recommendations.
