This post is in the department of Respiratory Medicine at Newham University Hospital, Barts Health NHS Trust. The post is whole time based at Newham University Hospital.



The purpose of this post is to connect the operational and clinical aspects of day-to-day ward activities, and to empower improvement and change. Furthermore, it will aim to provide continuity of care and support to senior decision makers whilst also acting as a lead on national audit collection and championing clinical outcome reporting.



They will receive a high standard of training in quality improvement and be given the chance to utilise these skills within the department they are working within. This is an ideal post for someone looking to implement real change, gain a unique insight into management, improve their clinical acumen and skill base, and to broaden their portfolio.



The post holder requires MRCP (or European equivalent) and previous NHS experience. The post will be for a fixed period, depending on the starting date for up to 11 months (until next October 12th) depending on the postholder’s preference and start date and extension can be considered following this.

1. Main duties and responsibilities



Clinical Respiratory

· The post holder will join 4 other registrars on the firm to share ward duties including managing inpatients including those on acute NIV under the care of the respiratory consultants, chest clinics and respiratory referrals within the hospital.

· The post holder will be expected to attend the morbidity and mortality (M&M) meetings and diagnostic Lung MDT meeting.

· Training will be available for pleural ultrasound, pleural procedures and bronchoscopy.

· The post holder will be encouraged to take part in audit, governance including incident reporting and education.

· The posts are ideal for candidates wishing to pursue a career in Acute Medicine or Respiratory Medicine and who seek to be clinical leaders in the future. There are ample career development opportunities within the department.

· To engage in teaching of more junior colleagues regularly throughout the posting

Leadership and Management

· To assist operations teams in supporting bed-flow and board-rounds

· To learn and shadow clinical leaders and gain an understanding of their job roles and what challenges they face

· Liaise with operational managers on a regular basis (including regular 1-1s) to bring about strategic alignment between managers and clinicians at all levels
