Summary
SENIOR PORT PRODUCT SAFETY OFFICER - FIXED TERM - 18 MONTHS
Are you an experienced Trading Standards professional ready to lead a dynamic team. We’re looking for a passionate and strategic Senior Port Product Safety Officer to join our Public Protection team within the Public Health and Adult Services Directorate.
This role is directly funded by central government to carry out safety checks and examinations of consumer goods entering the UK through the Humber Ports.
As Senior Port Product Safety Officer, you will:
Lead a team conducting compliance import checks, ensuring the provision of highly focussed activities to prevent unsafe and dangerous consumer goods and construction products entering the United Kingdom through Humber ports.
Be highly motivated and want to work in and lead a team that delivers excellent results and will be experienced in managing staff with proven experience in decision making and managing resources.
A proven ability to develop targeted initiatives aimed at identifying and intercepting consignments of illegal goods being imported through the ports.
Have excellent communication and collaboration skills, with an ability to to confidently engage with partner agencies, including the OPSS, Border Force, HM Revenue and Customs, and Port Health and be experienced in intelligence led operations.
You will have proven problem-solving skills along with demonstrable communication and interpersonal skills. Along with having an enquiring mind the post holder must have an attention to detail and ability to work both within a team environment and using their own initiative.
The post holder's duties will also include being responsible for providing advice and guidance to hauliers and importers of controlled goods regarding the numerous laws surrounding product safety.
The successful candidate will be expected to work at various locations around the Humber, often at short notice in order to meet the demands of the service. The roles are therefore subject to the holding of a Full UK Driving Licence – The Council is committed to making reasonable adjustments so whilst this job requires the job holder to drive, your application will still be considered if you are unable to drive due to a disability.
The use of specialist IT systems and commercial software such as Word, Excel and Outlook are an essential part of the role
