My client is a market leading civil engineering contracting organisation, employing over 750 people. They specialise in the self-delivery of high-quality civil engineering projects for a range of public and private sector clients.
As a Senior Engineer, you will be a pivotal technical leader within their teams, highly skilled and a results-driven individual(s) with a passion for civil engineering challenges. You will be critical in developing and technically owning robust engineering solutions throughout the entire project lifecycle. You may offer input from initial design, with detailed analysis, to essentially providing expert technical support during construction and final handover. This role offers an impactful opportunity to lead sometimes challenging engineering initiatives and significantly influence project outcomes through your technical acumen and experience. We have a strong pipeline of young and technically competent engineers, and a significant aspect of this role will be mentoring emerging talent, contributing directly to our organisation's success and reputation for excellence.
Key Responsibilities:
- Health, Safety and the environment: Prioritise health and safety on all sites and all projects. Help to develop people in your team in every aspect of this fundamental. Assist your Project Lead in all aspects. Ensure compliance with all relevant health, safety and environmental regulations and procedures. Promote a safe working environment for all team members, stakeholders and the general public, and lead from the front.
- Site Engineering Execution and Assurance: Lead and oversee all technical engineering activities on-site, ensuring the accurate interpretation and implementation of designs from enabling works through to final project delivery. Drive the execution of precise setting out, surveying, and quality control, ensuring that all construction works adhere strictly to drawings, specifications, and the highest quality standards. Adopt a proactive, "cradle-to-grave" approach to on-site technical delivery, providing expert guidance and resolving engineering challenges in real-time to maintain programme, budget, and technical integrity.
- Technical Leadership and Mentoring: Lead and motivate engineering team members and colleagues, including junior engineers, technicians, and graduate engineers. Assign tasks, provide guidance and support, and monitor performance. Foster a collaborative and productive technical working environment. Pass down the high standard you have set.
Qualifications and Capabilities:
- A minimum of an HNC in Civil Engineering.
- CSCS card
- SMSTS as a minimum (or have SSSTS and working towards it), preferably with a record of continuing professional development in health, safety and environmental standards and awareness.
- Track record of delivery as a Senior Engineer within the civil engineering industry.
- Strong management skills and able to provide mentoring and support to the wider engineering team.
- Excellent Communication Skills: Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to effectively communicate complex technical information with a variety of stakeholders.
- Computer literate with good working knowledge of Microsoft Office 365 and industry-standard civil engineering software (e.g., AutoCAD, Civil 3D, LSS). Programming ability would be advantageous.
- Some working knowledge of different standard forms of contracts, particularly NEC 3 and 4, would be advantageous, including change management.
- Technical Expertise: Solid understanding of civil engineering principles and practices, with a strong focus on delivery, right first time.
- Strong Leadership & negotiation Skills: Ability to lead and motivate engineering teams, build consensus, and resolve technical conflicts. Able to collect data, establish facts and draw conclusions. Resolve complex project challenges.
- Organisational Skills: Excellent organisational and time management skills, with the ability to manage multiple technical challenges simultaneously. Ability to adapt to changing circumstances and project requirements.
- A proactive and results-oriented approach, with a strong work ethic, resilience and a commitment to project success. A Team Player.
