This internal/external facing role in the team is an amazing opportunity to contribute to our Geospatial development across the whole of the organisation, enabling our colleagues to deliver our challenging environmental ambitions.

We’re looking for a GIS technical specialist with extensive knowledge of the Esri suite and user, data and information management experience using ESRI products with a proven record of effective delivery.
Our ideal candidate will combine a strong drive to modernise with a passion for improving the environment.

Working in the National GIS Team you will provide technical support of our spatial services and systems to staff and work closely with our customers to ensure best use of our resources. You will be able to identify opportunities to reduce effort and duplication in the way we manage our geospatial data and platforms and work with other teams to ensure we have a common approach on data management activities such as metadata, data quality techniques, data standards and custodianship.

The team

The National GIS Team provide geospatial platforms and services to the business. We manage national spatial data, platform access, software licences, users, and a small suite of business focused web mapping applications across a variety of platforms including ArcGIS Online, ArcGIS Enterprise and ArcGIS Pro. We use additional tooling such as FME and Python to automate the management of our services.

Experience/skills required

To succeed in this role you will demonstrate that you care about the environment and have the technical skills, experience and drive to help us deliver our national geospatial services.

Skills requirements:

Proven track record of managing data and metadata at an enterprise database level .
Advanced knowledge in the use of, management, and user administration of some of the following platforms: ArcGIS Online, ArcGIS Enterprise, ArcGIS Pro, FME, VertiGIS Studio.
Confident consulting on GIS projects and working closely with suppliers and contractors.
Understanding of data licencing and data protection policies and procedures.
Excellent communication, organisation and presentation skills.
Experience with the ArcGIS Python API and Jupyter Notebooks would be beneficial.
Everyone starting in a new role with the Environment Agency will be welcomed into the team and given all the training and support you need to succeed. There are also fully funded opportunities to develop further academic/professional qualifications.
