Summary

Project Support Officer - Education Infrastructure

Rate: £18.64 per hour
Contract: 6 months (strong potential to go permanent)
Location: Hybrid Working, with approx. 2 days per month in Birmingham
Start: ASAP

Are you organised, confident working with a range of stakeholders, and looking for a role that makes a difference in schools across the region? We're recruiting three Project Support Officers to join a busy Education Infrastructure team overseeing school estates, maintenance, and planned/unplanned works. This role would particularly suit someone with experience or understanding of construction, property, or estates who is looking to build on their project coordination skills.

About the Role

You'll help ensure the smooth delivery of key capital and maintenance programmes across the school estate, including: schools' additional places capital programme; schools' capital maintenance programme and compliance and maintenance of the wider Education & Skills property portfolio. You will provide coordination, communication, and organisational support to project managers and stakeholders - including Headteachers - to keep programmes on track and ensure high‑quality delivery.

Key Responsibilities

  • Coordinate key activities, programming and approvals across specific workstreams.
  • Organise and service meetings, track actions, and maintain risk/issue logs.
  • Build strong working relationships with stakeholders, ensuring clear and timely communication.
  • Attend consultation meetings and follow up on agreed actions.
  • Support the creation of project and programme management tools and systems.
  • Prepare reports, gather information, and respond to enquiries relating to your allocated projects.
  • Assist with aspects of asset management, contracts management, financial management, governance and approvals.
  • Provide high‑quality administrative and coordination support across the Education Infrastructure team.

What We're Looking For

  • Experience using project management tools and supporting project/programme delivery.
  • Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • Excellent communication skills and confidence liaising with stakeholders at all levels - including school leaders.
  • Proficiency with IT systems including Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Experience coordinating meetings and maintaining documentation such as minutes, action logs, or registers.
  • A collaborative team player who can build trust and credibility quickly.
  • Knowledge of construction, estates, maintenance or contracts/procurement is highly desirable.
