We are seeking a Senior BRC Intellectual Property Manager (Innovation and Knowledge Transfer) to develop IP and commercialisation opportunities in collaboration with the Trust’s R&D Department and CE Technology Managers. You shall also conduct business development activities to support the business objectives of the Trust by raising the profile of innovation both internally and externally.

You will use business development skills to drive IP exploitation and consultancy and other commercial research activities in coordination with the Trust R&D department, the BRC and CE. You will manage the development and commercialisation of the Trust’s IP assets including negotiating IP related agreements and concluding commercial deals relating to the IP and know-how and other research related assets.

You will mentor and collaborate with Commercialisation Associates based in Cambridge Enterprise who support the activities described above.

You will work with the NIHR to develop policies for the effective translation of research and development and will have overall responsibility for translating and developing R&D programmes, through commercialisation, to support the objectives of the Trust.

You will spend time at the Trust and at Cambridge Enterprise’s offices.

Take responsibility for and manage a large portfolio of IP related cases.

Identify and stimulate the disclosure of new cases arising from BRC or Trust research activities and for all cases will assess and exploit commercially valuable Intellectual Property (IP) arising from the Trust and the University of Cambridge, in particular BRC funded Trust and University research.

Day-to-day performance management and mentoring of a BRC IP Commercialisation Associate who supports and reports to you.

Work with clinicians and academics on cases including those of a highly complex nature to secure suitable translational resources (IP input into grant and other funding applications, including identifying relevant background IP in grant applications).

Prepare applications to secure any identified suitable developmental resources to add value to inventions.

Be responsible for a thorough market assessment / analysis of the potential market for the invention including detailed analysis of market size, dynamics, segmentation, etc.

Lead on all on-going Intellectual Property Management.

Write and deliver training and education on Intellectual Property for managers and clinicians including disseminating information on changes to regulatory / statutory guidelines.

Provide regular reports to Trust Research Board on all IP-related activities. Propose, develop and implement Trust-wide policies and procedures relating to IP activity.
