Trust Doctor (eqv to ST3+) in Cardiology Specialising Cardiomyopathy

A short description of who we are
Barts Health NHS Trust has a vision to be a high performing group of NHS hospitals, renowned for excellence and innovation and providing safe and compassionate care to our patients in east London
and beyond.
This post provides out-of-programme training in inherited cardiac conditions (ICC) for a candidate with suitable experience in clinical Cardiology. We expect post holders to undertake the same educational obligations as their colleagues.
There will be opportunity to work in clinic, inpatients, imaging, exercise physiology, genetics as well as research and teaching.





Clinical Training and Responsibilities:
Clinic:
▪ Cardiomyopathies: new and follow-up patients
▪ Specialist clinic evaluating and investigating families with sudden arrhythmic
death.
Inpatients:
Routine care of patients admitted under the care of the ICC team and evaluation of
those referred for an opinion from the ICC team.
Exercise Physiology
Training in conduct and interpretation of cardiopulmonary exercise testing

Genetics
1. Training in basic clinical genetics / genetic counselling
2. Conducting family screening.
3. Instruction in basic laboratory techniques (DNA extraction / PCR /
sequencing)
Non-clinical training and responsibilities:
Research
1. Work with clinical and research staff on existing projects
2. Develop own research project in inherited cardiac disease
Teaching
▪ To participate in teaching of medical students.
Governance
▪ To participate in audit and clinical governance at Barts Heart. This may include
responsibility for managing multidisciplinary meetings and/or a programme of
clinical audit.
