The post holder will work as a member of the breast multi-disciplinary team within the secondary care setting. The post holder will autonomously liaise with patients, carers, consultants, GP’s and related therapists providing information, Holistic Needs Assessments, supporting the health promotion and support for patients with early and metastatic breast cancer from diagnosis and at every stage throughout their complex breast cancer pathway.
The post holder will work closely with the Breast Care Nursing team providing cover for specific clinical commitments such as MDT meetings, clinic sessions (surgical and oncology clinics), Nurse Led clinics and telephone advice. As a member of the Breast cancer multi-disciplinary team you will be expected to undertake Advanced Communication Skills training in order to facilitate breaking bad news clinics and provide holistic assessment and psychological support to Breast cancer patients and their carers.
The post will provide a comprehensive highly specialist service to clients with breast cancer throughout their care pathway including overarching responsibility for the support of patients living with and beyond breast cancer and patients with metastatic breast disease.
To ensure expert psychological and clinical support for patients and their relatives/carers with referral to psychological support as appropriate to implement a recovery package for patients, for patients living with and beyond breast cancer.
To provide specialist nursing knowledge and expertise with the aim of educating and supporting patients, their families and healthcare professionals in the care, management and treatments associated with secondary breast cancer
To act as a key contact providing continuity, support and information for secondary breast cancer patients and carers, at the Christie main site.
To provide specialist advice, support and symptom management for patients, carers and other professionals.
To work as a member of the Breast Disease Group and being aware of change at national level and lead on developing services locally.
To undertake clinical and organisational audit, evaluate results and promote the importance and value of undertaking such initiatives through multi professional
collaboration.
