Are you a calm, patient and understanding person who enjoys making a real difference in a young person’s life? We’re looking for a warm, steady companion to support a gentle-spirited 16-year-old girl who thrives with consistency, kindness and a peaceful presence. She is autistic with high support needs, experiences social anxiety, and is sensitive to sounds and smells, so someone who can offer reassurance and create a soothing environment will be essential.
Your time together will be about helping her feel safe, confident and happy as she explores the world. She loves outdoor adventures, bubbles and relaxed trips out in the community. You might visit the park, pop to the shops, enjoy some quiet time in the library or take part in calm activities that bring her joy. She uses a speech device to communicate, and you’ll support her in expressing her needs while celebrating her progress.
Day-to-day support will include gentle prompting around eating, drinking and personal care, always in a respectful and encouraging manner. In terms of food prep, you will be required to heat and serve meals. Outside of the home you’ll help her engage with the world at her own pace and be a steady, grounding presence when things feel overwhelming.
The role begins with weekend hours, with the option to introduce weekday evenings over time. You’ll provide 3 hours of support during term time and 6 hours during school holidays, with the possibility of additional hours as needed. This is a meaningful, relationship-focused role for someone who wants to support a young person in feeling understood, empowered and free to enjoy her favourite activities.
If you’re compassionate, reliable and ready to bring calm positivity to her weekends, we’d love to hear from you.
