Lead the implementation of strategic objectives within the medical education strategy along with the clinical tutor team. Lead on the project management of new initiatives within Medical Education, formulating project plans, setting deadlines and delivering on key targets, making adjustments to plans as appropriate and facilitating collaborative working across the Trust through meetings with College Tutors and setting up groups as necessary. In collaboration with the DME and DUME, facilitate the business planning process for the Medical Education Department and the Clinical Simulation Centre within the Trust, ensuring that priorities for the forthcoming year are identified and that formal discussions with Tutors and Directors are linked to education and training Care Group contracts in association with the needs of service delivery within the trust. Working with Tutors across care groups, support the delivery of medical education and the quality of training placements. To ensure that the trust is achieving the required standards with regard to an efficient, effective and quality medical education service. To give advice and assistance to resident doctors, consultants, NHS England and other trusts with regard to queries and questions about training posts, career advice, mandatory training courses, education issues, local induction, study leave, rotas, medical staffing, financial support for teaching and educational supervision and supporting clinical areas. Responsible for line management of administration staff within medical education including: - Appraisal, training and professional development - One to one support and performance management issues - Absence management in accordance with Trust policy - Recruitment and selection of staff - Disciplinary and Resolution issues - Allocation of work - Authorisation of expenses - Manage additional staff resources as required as part of cross team projects Design, deliver and lead/present specific training events for own staff and staff within other departments. Escalate such issues due to complexity, lack of progress or where support is required. Using computer software and associated formulae, develop, implement and produce regular statistical reports for DME and DUME on all aspects of medical education delivery in Care Groups, linked to General Medical Council (GMC) training standards and the impact of improvement interventions. In conjunction with the DME, monitor the effectiveness of processes to deal with doctors with differing needs and ensuring remedial action is taken where necessary. Monitoring of data from care groups on educational/clinical supervision and allocation of F1/F2 etc. and contribution to education in line with MPET funding To manage the operation of the TIS/Health Roster for doctors working within the Trust ensuring that new posts are identified and approved and that all resident doctor data is updated and exchanged with NHS England allowing the Trust to identify and claim salaries for doctors in training and the approval of study leave for those doctors. Ensure e-portfolio system is managed effectively both within the Medical Education Department and within the Care Groups, ensuring Educational and Clinical Supervisor capability and training if necessary To manage the quality assurance systems related to Medical Education across the Trust with particular reference to specialty schools, NHS England and university visits and annual reports to stakeholders ensuring that a trust-wide response and action plan is delivered and that all training in all specialties is quality assured. To work with finance colleagues on all aspects of undergraduate and postgraduate budgets in order to clarify new income, new funding for posts and any costs savings to be made with the allocation of annual budgets based on the number of doctors and students allocated to annual contracts. In collaboration with the DME, DUME, Medical Director and finance, manage expenditure and resources with the medical education budget, ensuring that bids for expenditure are approved within policy and that regular reviews of budget expenditure are undertaken. Maximise external funding opportunities (multi-professional education and training levy (MPET), continuing professional development (CPD), NHS England contract). Acting as key link for NHS England and the lead employer trust (LET) to contact regarding any queries regarding junior doctor contracts and all employment issues relating to training doctors in the Trust Support nursing and allied health professional teams in completing the multi professional self-assessment report (SAR) and quality improvement plan (QIP) Responsible for the purchase of assets and supplies for medical education Ensure all office equipment and furniture within medical education is satisfactory and meets required standards in accordance with health and safety regulations. To ensure the Trust is legally compliant with current legislation related to equality and diversity and promote best practice. Keep up to date with changes in employment legislation and consider the impact on medical education. Contribute, participate and demonstrate national initiatives appropriate to medical education that complement or demonstrate the trusts commitment to provide a safe and skilled workforce. Participate in the development, implementation, review and maintenance of policies and procedures within medical education Contribute to the Trust workforce & organisational development (OD) plan on behalf of medical education ensuring that the needs of all medical students, resident doctors and their trainers are included with particular reference to essential training for foundation doctors and specialty trainees Represent the DME and DUME as appropriate, both internally and externally across the trust, on all matters linked to medical education Develop and maintain internal and external relationships, medical director,care group clinical directors, Associate Directors of Nursing and Associate Directors of Operations Raise the profile of medical education across the trust, to ensure a continuous improvement in the quality of medical education across the trust Lead by action and inspire others acting as role model, demonstrating the leadership behaviours and values identified by the trust Actively give and receive feedback in a constructive manner.
