Role Overview
We are looking for General Assistants to join our catering team at London Gatwick. This is a fast-paced role, ideal for someone who enjoys working in busy and changing environments. You will work across Dishwash, Production, and Pick & Pack as required.

Reports to: Department Manager
Pay rate: £12.81 per hour
Shift pattern: 4 days on, 2 days off (rolling roster)

Hours: 06:00 - 14:30 or 14:30 -23:00

You will play a key role as General Assistant in ensuring catering supplies and goods are prepared and delivered on time to meet customer needs at Gatwick.

Key Responsibilities as General Assistant

General Duties

  • Manage stock rotation to maintain product quality and shelf life
  • Monitor, record, and report food waste
  • Identify, record, and report any breakages (e.g. china or glass)
  • Support the team to ensure production targets are met

Dishwash

  • Safely dispose of waste using the appropriate equipment
  • Load and operate catering wash equipment in line with training
  • Monitor machines to ensure they are running at the correct temperature
  • Inspect cleaned items to ensure they meet cleanliness and safety standards

Production

  • Prepare airline products in line with required specifications and standards

  • Organise and supply products to the relevant departments efficiently

  • Pack carts and production trolleys to the correct standard, based on passenger numbers

Pick & Pack

  • Inspect products to ensure they meet quality standards before packing

  • Pack carts accurately in line with required standards and passenger numbers

  • Complete final search and screening checks in line with procedures

Skills and Experience

  • Previous catering experience of at least one year is desirable

  • Strong communication skills with a team-focused and customer-first approach

  • Good basic literacy skills, both written and spoken
