SEN Pupil Support Assistant
Hours: 29.25 hours per week
Location: Plymouth
Setting: Specialist SEN School
If you're looking for a role similar to a Teaching Assistant, but with a strong focus on individual student support, this could be the perfect fit.
As an SEN Pupil Support Assistant, you'll work closely with teachers in the classroom, supporting children and young people to access learning, build confidence, and feel safe and understood throughout the school day.
Thrive Recruitment Group is recruiting on behalf of a specialist SEN school in Plymouth, supporting pupils aged 4-19 with severe learning difficulties. With more pupils needing additional and 1:1 support, the school is expanding its support team.
Much like a Teaching Assistant, you'll be an essential part of the classroom, supporting learning and wellbeing by:
- Working alongside the class teacher to support lessons and activities
- Providing 1:1 and small-group support
- Helping pupils follow personalised learning plans
- Supporting communication, emotional regulation, and independence
- Assisting with personal care and daily routines where required
- Helping maintain a calm, positive, and inclusive classroom environment
You'll often be the person who helps a pupil settle, stay engaged, or feel confident enough to take part.
This role is ideal if you're interested in developing a career in education or SEN, or if you're already working as a Teaching Assistant and looking for a slightly different focus.
You'll benefit from:
- A structured induction and ongoing mentoring
- Access to SEN-specific training and development
- Support to work towards a Level 2 qualification if required
- Clear progression routes into senior support roles or wider education positions
- Patient, caring, and reliable individuals
- A positive, pupil-focused approach
- A genuine interest in SEN and inclusive education
- Experience as a Teaching Assistant, Learning Support Assistant, or in care/support roles is welcome, but not essential
All staff share a commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people. An enhanced DBS check and satisfactory references are required.
