Engagement & Support Mentor
Location: Plymouth
Hours: Full-Time | Monday to Friday | Term Time Only
Contract: Ongoing temporary with potential to go permanent
Pay: Competitive, based on experience
Some students don't need pressure - they need patience, trust, and someone who believes in them.
Thrive Recruitment Group is working in partnership with schools across Plymouth to recruit Engagement & Support Mentors to support children and young people who need extra help accessing education.
This role is ideal if you're passionate about supporting pupils with SEMH needs, SEN, behavioural challenges, or those at risk of disengaging from learning - and you want to make a real, lasting impact.
This is a Learning Mentor-style role, focused on engagement, wellbeing, and inclusion.
You'll work closely with pupils both in and out of the classroom, helping them:
- Feel safe and understood
- Build confidence and emotional resilience
- Re-engage with learning and school life
- Develop positive behaviour and coping strategies
Often, you'll be the consistent adult who helps turn a difficult day into a positive one.
Your role will include:
- Supporting pupils 1:1 or in small groups
- Helping students stay focused, motivated, and emotionally regulated
- Building strong, trusting relationships
- Working alongside teachers, SENCOs, and pastoral teams
- Supporting learning plans, reintegration, and transitions
- Promoting inclusion and a positive school experience
No two days are the same - but every day matters.
You don't need to be a teacher - just the right approach.
- Experience supporting children or young people (education, care, youth work, mentoring)
- Calm, patient, and emotionally intelligent
- Confident working independently and as part of a team
- Strong communication and relationship-building skills
An Enhanced DBS is required (or willingness to apply).
We believe great people deserve great support.
You'll benefit from:
- A friendly, supportive team who put candidates first
- Competitive pay, paid weekly
- Flexible, local placements
- Long-term opportunities with the potential to go permanent
- Access to training and CPD
If you're ready to help young people reconnect with education and believe in themselves again, we'd love to hear from you.
