Do you have a passion for IT and want to turn it into a career?
Are you interested in technology, enjoy solving problems, and like helping people? This entry-level role is ideal if you’re looking to start a career in IT in a supportive environment where you can learn, grow and gain hands-on experience across a wide range of systems.
This role is designed for someone at the beginning of their IT journey. You don’t need professional IT experience; what matters most is enthusiasm, curiosity, and a willingness to learn.
We are a small IT team, which means you won’t be limited to just one narrow area. As you grow and develop, you’ll have the opportunity to get involved in many different aspects of IT and build a broad foundation for your future career.
About Niab
Niab is a leading crop science organisation working to improve how food is grown, now and in the future. We carry out research, trials, and technical services that support farmers, plant breeders, and policymakers, helping to address global challenges such as food security, sustainability, and climate change.
About the Role
As a 1st Line IT Technician, you will be part of a friendly IT team supporting colleagues across Niab. You will be the first point of contact for IT queries, help set up devices for new and existing staff, support everyday systems such as email and Microsoft 365, and escalate more complex issues when needed. You will also have opportunities to support IT projects as you gain experience.
The role is varied, practical and people focused. Full training is provided, and you will be supported by experienced colleagues.
This is a hybrid role, based at our Histon office with remote working once you are established.
About You
You do not need professional IT experience to apply for this role. We welcome applications from people who are starting their first IT role, changing career direction, or developing their skills through education, self study or personal projects. What matters most is your interest in IT and your motivation to learn and grow.
We are looking for someone who enjoys helping people, communicates confidently and works well as part of a small, supportive team. Enthusiasm, reliability and a positive approach are essential, along with a willingness to learn and follow guidance. With the right attitude and curiosity, the technical skills needed for the role can be developed through training and on-the-job experience.
About the Application Process
Please read the Candidate Pack and Job Description, which provide full details about the role, application process and what to expect.
