Summary

We are looking to appoint a 12 month fixed term full timeandnbsp;Digital Inclusion Officerandnbsp;workingandnbsp;across the City,andnbsp;alongside colleagues in the Smart Cities Team.andnbsp;



Sunderland City Councilandnbsp;has aandnbsp;strong commitment toandnbsp;digital inclusionandnbsp;to ensure that noandnbsp;one and nowhere is left behind in the digital world.andnbsp;



The existing Digital Inclusion Action Plan concludes inandnbsp;March 2026andnbsp;and will be replaced by a new Digital Inclusion Strategy for the City.andnbsp; This strategy introduces additional functions and responsibilities for the Smart City Team, aligning with four cross-cutting themes: employment, education, economy, and health, whilst addressing key challenges relating to access to data and devices, buildingandnbsp;digital skillsandnbsp;and media literacy, improving confidence,andnbsp;providing accessible digital online services, co-ordinating digital inclusion initiatives and securing external investment.



Examples of what you will be doing:andnbsp;

-andnbsp;Planning and delivering engaging online andandnbsp;face-to-faceandnbsp;digital inclusion sessions, events and campaigns for residents and staff.andnbsp;andnbsp;

-andnbsp;Working in partnership with council teams, communityandnbsp;organisationsandnbsp;and volunteers to support people to build digital confidence and skills.andnbsp;andnbsp;

-andnbsp;Coordinating digital support services, including device and data support, Digital Health Hubs, and 1:1andnbsp;assistance.andnbsp;andnbsp;

- Promoting and supporting the uptake of digital tools,andnbsp;technologiesandnbsp;and ways of working across the organisation and communities.andnbsp;andnbsp;

-andnbsp;Gathering insight, feedback and performance data to evidence impact and shape future digital inclusion activity.andnbsp;



We are looking for someone who:andnbsp;andnbsp;

-andnbsp;Communicates confidently and positively with a wide range of people, both in person and using digital tools.andnbsp;andnbsp;

-andnbsp;Is comfortable using everyday digital technology, such as PCs,andnbsp;laptopsandnbsp;and smartphones.andnbsp;andnbsp;

-andnbsp;Can work well as part of a busy team, while also being confident working independently when needed.andnbsp;andnbsp;

-andnbsp;Is well organised,andnbsp;customer focusedandnbsp;and committed to delivering aandnbsp;high-qualityandnbsp;service.andnbsp;andnbsp;

The post will report to the Digital Inclusion Lead, be able to manage their own workload, as well as act as active Team member.andnbsp; The work willandnbsp;combine centre-based work (City Hall, IT Village, Ground Floor) with outreach activities atandnbsp;Digital Health Hubsandnbsp;and other VCS locations.



Theandnbsp;Smart Cityandnbsp;Teamandnbsp;are currently agile workingandnbsp;however, full time employeesandnbsp;are required toandnbsp;attend their place of workandnbsp;at City Hall, Sunderlandandnbsp;at leastandnbsp;twoandnbsp;days per weekandnbsp;so an element of your workandnbsp;mayandnbsp;be undertaken from home.andnbsp;andnbsp;andnbsp;
