We’re looking for a passionate and proactive Flood and Coastal Risk Management Officer to join our Partnerships and Strategic Overview (PSO) Team. In this dynamic and rewarding role you’ll help better protect people, property, and places across East Anglia from the impacts of flooding. You’ll have the opportunity to make a real difference - not just in how we manage flood risk today, but in how we prepare for tomorrow.
In this varied role, you will:
Use flood risk data and modelling to inform planning decisions.
Develop a good understanding of relevant issues and use this information to influence Local Plans to ensure flood resilience is built into future development.
Evaluate flood risk assessments and provide expert advice.
Assess flood risk activity permit applications and their potential impacts.
Provide specialist advice and support to customers, internally and externally.
Ensure information is recorded accurately, is up to date and readily accessible to support team activities. This may involve the use of specialised systems and databases
Take part in incident response when flooding occurs.

The team
You’ll join Partnerships and Strategic Overview (PSO) department, within Local Operations Directorate.
Our team use evidence (data, modelling, mapping) to understand flood risk and make decisions, and regulate activities like planning and permitting. Our work helps local communities and the environment be climate resilient so when flooding happens, it causes less damage and recovery is quicker.
We’re a dispersed team and work with a wide range of technical and project teams across the Area.
Experience/skills required
Essential
Experience in spatial planning or flood and coastal risk management
Ability to work on your own and as part of a team to make decisions and achieve planned outcomes.
Good communication skills to quickly develop and maintain positive relationships with internal and external customers.
Ability to deliver work to time and quality by planning, gathering, tracking, and maintaining data/information.
Good problem-solving capabilities including developing innovative solutions.
Ability to translate and communicate complex information for range of different customers and stakeholders.
Good influencing and engagement skills.
Desire to progress your own learning and development, and that of others.
Helpful
Practical knowledge of GIS software.
Degree in a relevant field such engineering, geography, or science.
A full UK driving licence.
You’ll have a range of development opportunities and appropriate training will be provided.
