What skills and experience we're looking for
Who we’re looking for
We’re searching for a teacher who believes that relationships are the foundation of learning and who thrives in a nurturing, team-focused environment. You will:
• Hold Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) – we warmly welcome applications from both primary and secondary teachers.
• Be patient, approachable and emotionally intelligent, able to build strong, trusting relationships with young adolescents.
• Demonstrate strong and compassionate classroom management that motivates and engages learners.
• Bring energy, creativity and fresh thinking to teaching and learning.
• Value teamwork, shared reflection and professional growth.
• Share our unwavering commitment to safeguarding and pupil wellbeing
What the school offers its staff
• Why join us?
Because here, your work truly matters.
• Small class sizes and skilled support staff allow you to focus on meaningful teaching and real impact.
• The opportunity to change lives – often through small, powerful moments that stay with pupils forever.
• Early Friday finish – because wellbeing matters for staff too.
• Outstanding induction, mentoring and training opportunities.
• A genuinely supportive team that celebrates successes and supports each other through challenges (and those unforgettable school-day surprises!).
• Continuous professional development because we believe great teachers never stop learning.
• A deeply collaborative and inclusive culture where every voice is valued and challenges are faced together.
• A school that celebrates progress over perfection.
• A role where every day is different, rewarding and meaningful.
• As part of the Southern Education Trust, you will contribute to our shared vision: “Making Lives Better.” We are committed to helping students become knowledgeable, self-aware, independent and happy individuals who make a positive difference in the world.

Further details about the role
Not every teaching role changes lives. This one does – every single day.
About Us
At The Wymering School, part of the Southern Education Trust, we believe every child deserves to be seen, understood and empowered to succeed – no matter the challenges they face.
Our pupils are extraordinary young people with Social Communication and Interaction needs, Speech, Language and Communication difficulties, and high levels of anxiety and associated distressed behaviours. They teach us every day that progress isn’t always loud or obvious – sometimes it’s a raised hand, a brave attempt, or a moment of calm.
Our work is built on three core values: Kindness, Collaboration and Creativity. These are not just words – they shape how we teach, support and grow together.
We are seeking an enthusiastic, compassionate and innovative teacher to join our team on a maternity cover basis – someone ready to make a genuine difference during an important chapter in our pupils’ journeys.
What you’ll be doing
As part of our welcoming and highly supportive team, you will:
• Design and deliver creative, engaging and purposeful lessons for KS3 pupils that spark curiosity and build confidence.
• Adapt learning in thoughtful and innovative ways, recognising each pupil’s strengths while supporting them through barriers.
• Create a classroom culture grounded in calmness, trust and kindness, where pupils feel safe to take risks and be themselves.
• Use assessment as a meaningful tool to celebrate progress, shape learning and unlock potential.
• Work collaboratively with colleagues, therapists, support staff and families – because we know the best outcomes happen when we work together.
• Contribute to the life and energy of the school community, sharing ideas, celebrating success and helping shape our future.
• Engage in professional development across The Wymering School and the Southern Education Trust, continually developing your craft and creativity as an educator.
Commitment to safeguarding
The Trust is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share the same commitment. Please ensure a full work history is completed in your application form including any gaps of employment. Applicants will be required to complete satisfactory enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (formerly CRB) check is required for this post prior to commencement. The Trust is an equal opportunities employer. If successfully shortlisted we would carry out an individual online search to demonstrate due diligence following the updated ‘Keeping Children Safe in Education 2022' guidance.
