Summary
We are looking to recruit a highly motivated Optometrist with an interest in age related macular degeneration (AMD), Diabetic macular oedema (DMO) & Retinal vein occlusion (RVO) pathology who would be keen to undertake an extended role in these specialised Retinal Treatment Clinics to help meet the needs of this service.
The successful candidate will work alongside Consultant Ophthalmologists, using advanced clinical techniques to undertake assessment of patients with AMD prior to treatment. The post holder may also be required to undertake some refractions as part of this service. The RTC service is setup at Bridlington Hospital in a bespoke eye unit and runs every Thursday. Practical knowledge of Macular Degeneration, its assessment and treatment are required but relevant training will be given to fulfil the needs of this post.
We run RTC clinics on Tuesday/Wednesday/Thursday.
The hours available will be for the Thursday or Wednesday @ 7.5hrs each day. Please indicate your day preference and availability in your application and whether you would want 2 days or 1 day.
Although the role is mainly for assessment and treatment of Age related Macular Degeneration the successful candidate will be required to acquire knowledge of retinal issues linked to retinal vein occlusions (RVO) and Diabetes (DMO).
The successful candidates will need to hold a BSc in Optometry and be registered with the General Optical Council and should have experience working with visually impaired patients.
Candidates should have an up to date and good practical knowledge of AMD, DMO & RVO to include the assessment and treatment of this condition.
Prior knowledge and experience of OCT, its use and interpretation is desirable but not essential. Relevant training will be given to fulfil the needs of the post.
The successful candidate should be able to work well as part of a team and should have good communication skills.
