Role purpose
To plan and deliver high-quality youth sessions that are safe, inclusive, engaging, and outcomes-focused. You will build trusted relationships with young people, create positive group culture, and support young people to grow in confidence, skills, and aspiration.
Key responsibilities
Delivery and engagement
~Deliver vibrant, well-structured youth sessions that young people enjoy and want to return to.
~Use excellent engagement skills to build rapport, manage group dynamics, and motivate participation.
~Facilitate a range of activities, for example youth voice, sports, arts, digital, employability, life skills, and community projects.
~Adapt delivery to meet different needs, including those who are anxious, disengaged, or have additional support needs.
Planning and quality
~Plan sessions with clear aims, inclusive activities, and appropriate resources.
~Ensure sessions are prepared, timed well, and evaluated, with learning captured and improvements actioned.
~Contribute ideas to programme development and help shape a consistent high-quality offer.
Safeguarding and wellbeing
~Maintain a safe environment and follow safeguarding policies at all times.
~Identify concerns early, respond appropriately, and record and report in line with procedure.
~Promote positive behaviour, mutual respect, and emotional wellbeing.
Relationships and partnership
~Communicate professionally with parents and carers where appropriate.
~Work collaboratively with colleagues, volunteers, schools and partners to support young people.
~Represent the organisation positively in the community.
Administration and monitoring
~Complete registers, incident and safeguarding records, and session evaluations accurately and on time.
~Support monitoring, including collecting young people’s feedback and basic outcome data.
~Follow all relevant policies, including health and safety, GDPR, and equality and diversity.
Person specification
Essential
~Experience of delivering youth work or youth activities with 11 to 18s (or similar age group).
~Strong engagement skills, including the ability to build trust and manage challenging behaviour calmly.
~Ability to plan and deliver fun, structured sessions that are inclusive and youth-centred.
~Understanding of safeguarding and professional boundaries.
~Strong teamwork, reliability, and the ability to communicate clearly.
~Willingness to work evenings and occasional weekends.
Desirable
~JNC qualification or Level 2 to Level 3 Youth Work qualification (or equivalent experience).
~Experience of supporting vulnerable young people, including those at risk of exclusion, exploitation, or poor mental wellbeing.
~Experience of detached or outreach youth work.
~First Aid qualification and experience of risk assessments.
~Ability to support volunteering, youth leadership, or youth social action.
