Your new company
You'll be joining a global biopharmaceutical organisation known for its strong scientific heritage and commitment to advancing transformative therapies across immunology, neurology and gene therapy.
With a collaborative culture and access to cutting‑edge technologies, this environment offers an excellent opportunity to broaden your expertise and make a meaningful contribution to the drug development pipeline.
Your new role
This is initially a 12-month contract role that is very likely to extend, working in a growing team that plays a key role in supporting the progression of novel assets from early discovery into clinical development, contributing directly to the understanding of disease biology and therapeutic impact. While you will have some involvement with neuroscience projects the significant majority of your work will be in immunology drug discovery & development.
Major responsibilities will include:
- Develop high‑quality flow cytometry assays to support preclinical and clinical programmes.
- Troubleshoot and resolve technical challenges independently to ensure robust and reliable assay performance.
- Plan, design and execute experiments, ensuring timelines and milestones are met to deliver biomarker and translational research projects effectively.
- Act as a Subject Matter Expert and liaise with different internal research groups to deliver work packages in support of preclinical, translational and clinical development projects.
- Work closely with external collaborators and Contract Research organisations (CROs), eg for assay transfer and validation.
- Interpret analytical data using sound scientific judgement and communicate findings clearly and promptly.
- Manage and prioritise workload effectively to meet project and team milestones.
Please note that no visa sponsorship is available and all candidates must have the right to work in the UK without restriction until at least March 2027
What you'll need to succeed
- An MSc or PhD in biology, biochemistry, biomedical science, immunology or a related area (or equivalent experience).
- Good practical experience with flow cytometry, preferably in an industry (biotech, pharmaceutical, CRO) setting, though academic experience is also acceptable.
- Hands‑on expertise in developing methods and assay validation for flow cytometry, as well as good data analysis skills.
- Practical experience with relevant flow cytometry software packages, such as FCS Express, FACS Suite, FlowJo, BD Diva, etc.
- Experience of leading or coordinating research projects, with a preference for this to be in industry/focused around drug discovery & development.
- Competence with electronic lab notebooks and standard software packages.
- Clear communication skills and the ability to work effectively within a matrix, cross‑functional environment.
Candidates with direct experience of drug discovery and/or drug development are preferred, but candidates from an academic background are also encouraged to apply.
For more experienced candidates the role can be awarded at Principal Scientist level, for those with less experience the role is available at a senior scientist level with scope for development/progression.
What you'll get in return
You'll be joining an experienced team and making a direct impact on the company's drug discovery and development workflows, working in a highly collaborative environment.
You'll also get a good daily/hourly rate and the chance to help build up a team.
