Join Our Team as a Learning and Skills Tutor

Are you creative, patient and passionate about supporting young people to achieve their goals?

Would you like a varied and rewarding role where you can truly make a difference to the lives of learners with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND)?

If so, we’d love to hear from you! United Response is looking for a motivated and supportive Learning and Skills Tutor to join our Skills, Wellbeing and Enterprise service in York and North Yorkshire.

Location: York
Function: Skills, Wellbeing and Enterprise (part of Education, Skills, Employment and Enterprise)
Accountable to: Education Team Manager
Hours: Up to 37.5 hours per week (full-time, part-time or relief opportunities available)
Salary:£27,651 per annum

You will deliver personalised, engaging and inclusive learning programmes for young people aged 16–25 with Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs). Working closely with colleagues, employers and partner organisations, you will support learners to develop independence, confidence and essential life skills while embedding English, Maths and ICT.

This is not a term-time position; however, Learning and Skills Tutors are expected to take annual leave during out-of-term periods unless agreed by management.

Your role will include planning and delivering creative learning sessions across classroom, workplace and community settings, assessing learner progress, setting realistic targets and maintaining accurate records in line with safeguarding, Ofsted and funding requirements. You will use person-centred teaching approaches, provide regular feedback, encourage attendance and engagement, and adapt learning to meet individual needs.

Learning currently covers areas such as Life Skills and Personal Development, Creative and Digital Media, Digital Skills and Technology, and Practical and Vocational Skills. Tutors are encouraged to continue developing their knowledge across these areas to best support learners.

We’re keen to hear from applicants with experience working in education or learning environments, ideally supporting people with SEND/SEMH and EHCPs. You’ll be organised, able to work autonomously, confident using IT systems, and comfortable managing risk when supporting learners with complex needs.

You’ll need a relevant teaching qualification (7307/PTLLS/AET/Cert Ed), minimum Level 2 qualifications in English and Maths, and Level 2 ICT (or equivalent competence). A higher-level teaching qualification and experience of post-16 SEND provision or Ofsted requirements would be an advantage.
