Crynodeb
We are looking for a motivated and enthusiastic Marine Monitoring Officer to join our team on a fixed term contract. This role will help deliver a variety of marine monitoring projects throughout England focussing primarily on the East Coast.
You'll perform operational shifts working on our Coastal Survey Vessel Humber Guardian covering the coast between Berwick and Great Yarmouth. This will include extended periods and weekends working away from your base. When you are not operational on a vessel you will manage data tasks and support projects. The post is based in our Peterborough office, but other EA base locations in the Midlands and the north of England will be considered, please contact us to discuss. The contract for the post is annualised hours and attracts a 15% shift allowance on top of basic salary.
The successful applicant will be required to pass either a ML5 or ENG1 medical before employment. Failure to pass a medical will prevent the applicant from being employed.
The role requires travelling between locations on a regular basis and as a result requires a full UK driving licence.

The team
The Estuarine and Coastal Survey team deliver the Environment Agency marine monitoring programme. This includes water and ecological monitoring. This is undertaken throughout England and for National Resources Wales as part of an ongoing partnership. It delivers vital services including marine statutory responsibilities relating to water quality. We deliver a wide range of marine monitoring projects for internal and DEFRA customers.
Experience/skills required
It is preferable that you have experience of working in dispersed teams, with marine monitoring operations experience. The successful candidate will demonstrate exemplary Health and Safety awareness, required for working safely in this environment.
Ideally, you’ll be qualified to degree standard in a relevant discipline or, have experience of boat based marine survey work.
Other key requirements for this job include flexibility, excellent communication skills, and an ability to manage your own workload.
