Location: Edinburgh area (port-based)
Contract: 9 months (freelance / Ltd company)
Start: ASAP
Type: Contract
Hours: Full-time, site-based
Rate: Competitive, outside IR35

The Opportunity

We're recruiting a Client Site Representative / QC Inspector to support a major offshore wind project in the Edinburgh area. You'll be based at a busy port facility, acting as the client's on-site presence during the receipt, handling and storage of large offshore wind components.

This is a hands-on role, ideal for someone with a strong background in offshore wind, fabrication yards, marine logistics or heavy industrial construction, who enjoys being out on site and close to the operations.

What you'll be doing

In this role you will:

  • Act as the client's representative on site for port-based activities related to large offshore wind components.
  • Monitor day-to-day operations to ensure they are carried out safely, efficiently and in line with project procedures.
  • Observe lifting, handling and storage activities and keep clear, factual records of what takes place.
  • Review and comment on technical documentation such as method statements, inspection test plans (ITPs), work instructions and technical specifications.
  • Verify that agreed welding, coating and handling procedures are being followed and that associated quality records are maintained.
  • Carry out surveillance and quality inspections on site, identifying any non-conformance's or deviations from agreed standards.
  • Raise, document and track NCRs / quality observations, and follow up to confirm close-out.
  • Use digital tools (e.g. tablet-based inspection / snagging apps) to log inspections, snags and observations.
  • Liaise with the client team, yard / port personnel and contractors to make sure everyone is aligned on HSE, quality and schedule expectations.
  • Provide clear daily and weekly updates to the client, including progress, key risks and any issues requiring attention.
What we're looking for

Essential

  • Valid GWO Working at Height certificate.
  • Proven experience in one or more of the following environments:
    • Offshore wind or offshore renewables
    • Fabrication yards or heavy steel fabrication
    • Marine logistics / port operations
    • Other heavy industrial construction with complex lifting operations
  • Solid understanding of QA/QC processes, including ITPs, NCRs and specification compliance.
  • Ability to interpret technical documentation (e.g. welding procedures, coating systems, lifting and load-out procedures).
  • Strong awareness of HSE requirements and safe systems of work in a construction or port / marine environment.
  • Confident communicator who can interface with contractors, site teams and senior stakeholders.
  • Based within a commutable distance of the Edinburgh area and willing to work full-time on site.

Desirable

  • CSWIP 3.1 Welding Inspector or equivalent qualification.
  • ICorr Coating Inspector Level 1 or 2.
  • ISO 9001 Internal or Lead Auditor certification.
  • Experience using digital inspection / snagging platforms.
  • Background in handling or overseeing large offshore wind components (e.g. foundations, transition pieces, jackets, monopiles or similar).
Personal attributes

We're keen to speak to people who are:

  • Proactive and assertive when representing the client on site.
  • Detail-focused, with a methodical approach to inspection and reporting.
  • Calm under pressure, especially during heavy lifting or time-critical operations.
  • Collaborative and professional when working with multiple contractors and stakeholder groups.
How to apply

If you're an experienced Client Representative / QC Inspector with offshore wind or heavy industrial experience and you're available to work on site in the Edinburgh area, we'd love to hear from you.
