Mechanical Fitter

Full-Time | Permanent
£17.50 per hour + overtime at 1.5x
Cheltenham base | UK & international site work

Why You’ll Want This Role

If you’re a hands-on Mechanical Fitter who enjoys building machinery properly, working from drawings, and seeing a job through to completion, this role offers real variety and responsibility.

You’ll be working on bespoke automation and conveyor systems, not repetitive production-line work. The role is strongly mechanical, with paid overtime, early Friday finishes, and opportunities to travel in the UK and overseas.

You’ll be trusted to do the job right, supported by an experienced team, and given the chance to work on interesting, well-engineered equipment.

What You’ll Be Doing
  • Mechanical assembly of automation machinery and conveyor systems

  • Fitting frames, guards, bearings, shafts, drives, and precision components

  • Building medium-sized assemblies and sub-assemblies

  • Installing and setting up pneumatic systems (valves, cylinders, actuators, airlines)

  • Working from mechanical engineering drawings and layouts

  • Carrying out mechanical fault-finding, alignment, and adjustments

  • Supporting site-based work at customer facilities in the UK and abroad

  • Very basic electrical tasks only where required (e.g. routing cables or mounting sensors)

  • Maintaining high standards of workmanship, safety, and cleanliness

The Type of Mechanical Fitter We’re Looking For
    • Time-served or experienced Mechanical Fitter / Mechanical Assembler

    • 3+ years’ experience building industrial machinery, automation equipment, or conveyors

    • Confident using hand tools and power tools

    • Able to read and interpret mechanical drawings

    • Experience with pneumatics is a strong advantage

    • Comfortable working independently or as part of a team

    • Takes pride in quality work and attention to detail

      Travel & Working Pattern
      • Based in Cheltenham, with occasional site work

      • Travel approximately 30–40% of the time

      • Typically up to 2 weeks away, around 6 trips per year

      • UK and international sites including USA and Canada

      • Hotels, daily allowance, and overtime paid while travelling

        What You Get
        • £17.50 per hour

        • Overtime paid at 1.5x

        • International travel with:

          • Hotel accommodation provided

          • Daily allowance

          • Early finish every Friday (14:00)

          • Uniform and PPE supplied

          • Spot bonuses and recognition awards

          • Contributory pension scheme (after probation)

          • 21 days holiday + bank holidays, increasing with service

          • Private health insurance for you and your family (after probation)

          • Cycle to Work scheme

          • Friendly, supportive team with long-term prospects

            What You’ll Need
            • Full UK driving licence (maximum 3 points)

            • British or EU passport (required for travel to USA/Canada)

            • No criminal convictions that prevent overseas travel

            • Professional, reliable, and safety-focused approach

Applicants must be legally entitled to work in the UK.
