Do you have a keen interest in Airway management and experience in tracheostomy care delivery? If so this exciting job opportunity may be for you.

We are looking to second a dynamic and motivated Band 6 to join the team for a 9 month period. The post holder will be expected to work 24 hours over 3 days (Monday, Tuesday and Thursday) to meet the demands of the service.

The post holder will work alongside the current Band 7 Airway nurse specialists and will be responsible for supporting the care needs of laryngectomy and tracheostomy patients in both the ward /outpatient settings and in primary care.

The Airway service currently has a caseload of 350 patients and main duties include -

· Autonomous working and to responsible for providing support to laryngectomy and tracheostomy patients from the point of diagnosis through treatment on the ward and provide ongoing support in the community once discharged from hospital.

· Delivering teaching and education on all aspects tracheostomy and laryngectomy care to doctors, AHPs, Nurses and external care agencies
• Running nurse led tracheostomy clinics at both NUH, Kingsmill hospital and in a community setting to ensure all tracheostomy patients require timely reviews and tube changes.

Applicants for this post must hold a valid UK driving licence.

· Coordinate ordering of products and consumables to facilitate an early discharge which can include nebulisers, suction machines, home oxygen and airway supplies

· Act as a key contact and source of information for patients, relatives, carers and the multi-professional team to provide support and advice on airway issues.

· Input and coordinate airway alerts on Nervecentre for all long-term tracheostomy and laryngectomy patients, allowing an email alert to be sent to facilitate a prompt review if they are admitted to hospital.

· Collaborative working with consultants, speech and language therapists, dieticians and other nurse specialists to deliver cohesive positive patient outcomes

· To raise public awareness of airway issues/problems

· To develop a centre of excellence in Airway nursing research

· To develop evidence to support Airway practice
