Advise managers and staff on health and safety duties, compliance requirements and best practice.

Develop, review and promote corporate safety policies, procedures and management systems.

Conduct audits, inspections and risk assessments, producing clear action plans and recommendations.

Monitor performance, analyse data and report on safety trends, risks and emerging issues.

Prepare and deliver training to managers and employees on key health and safety topics.

Produce concise reports, policies and guidance documents for varied audiences.

Engage effectively with stakeholders including managers, head teachers, trade unions and enforcement bodies.

Support corporate and departmental health and safety committees.

Contribute to emergency planning, safe working practices and environmental monitoring.

Assist with the coordination of the council’s drug and alcohol testing programme, including occasional out‑of‑hours work.

Maintain professional development and ensure up‑to‑date knowledge of legislation and standards.
