? Net Zero & Environment Lead

Foodbuy UK
Location: Chertsey/London (Hybrid)
Contract: Full-time
Team: Sustainability

Foodbuy Group is a leading food procurement organisation based in the UK. With over £2bn of managed spend, we bring together the widest range of foodservice and hospitality clients to buy both food and non‑food products. As the UK’s largest Group Purchasing Organisation, we work closely with our clients to deliver expert procurement services—saving them time and money and enabling them to focus on what really matters to their businesses.

We are now seeking an experienced and driven Net Zero & Environment Lead to advance Foodbuy’s carbon‑reduction strategy and environmental commitments across our supply chain and client base.

? The Role

As our Net Zero & Environment Lead, you will develop, deliver and track Foodbuy’s Net Zero strategy while shaping environmental programmes that span our extensive supplier network. You’ll influence procurement decisions, steer supplier engagement, enhance environmental reporting, and support the launch of Foodbuy’s in‑house sustainability consultancy.

? Key Responsibilities

Net Zero
  • Identify and progress carbon‑reduction initiatives across the supply chain (Scope 3).
  • Work with our climate consultancy partner to validate initiatives and conduct LCA assessments.
  • Develop Foodbuy’s Carbon Reduction Delivery Strategy with input from the leadership team.
  • Conduct market analysis for sustainability and carbon‑management software solutions.
  • Represent Foodbuy externally through partnerships with NGOs and sustainability groups.
  • Provide insights, updates and data support to sector sustainability leads.
  • Track emissions reductions and maintain the Net Zero pipeline dashboard.
  • Work with category teams to identify supplier-based carbon‑reduction opportunities.
  • Co-create Joint Business Plans with strategic suppliers that integrate sustainability commitments.
  • Represent Net Zero in supplier and sector workshops.
  • Research upcoming environmental legislation and brief internal teams on impacts.
  • Produce clear sustainability reports for senior stakeholders.
  • Deliver carbon literacy training across Foodbuy and the wider Compass Group.
Environment
  • Support SOFI reporting and environmental data processes.
  • Lead Foodbuy’s preparation for upcoming EUDR requirements, including data capture, reporting and transition planning.
  • Track progress on palm oil commitments and soy credit procurement.
  • Manage Foodbuy’s supplier water‑footprint strategy.
  • Represent environmental programmes across key internal and external workshops.
  • Work with marketing and communications teams to share clear and transparent sustainability messages.
Strategy
  • Support the launch and development of Foodbuy’s in‑house sustainability consultancy.
  • Manage client sustainability roadmaps covering Net Zero, carbon and environmental actions.
  • Promote Foodbuy sustainability expertise externally to generate income and strengthen partnerships.

? About You

You will excel in this role if you:

  • Bring strong experience in sustainability, Net Zero strategy or environmental programme management.
  • Understand supply chain dynamics and Scope 3 emissions reduction.
  • Can confidently build relationships with senior internal and external stakeholders.
  • Are skilled at translating technical environmental data into actionable insights.
  • Enjoy a blend of strategic thinking, hands‑on project delivery and cross‑functional collaboration.
  • Are proactive, organised and motivated by achieving genuine environmental impact.

? What We Offer

  • The opportunity to shape sustainability across a major UK procurement organisation.
  • Collaboration with high-profile suppliers, clients and sustainability partners.
  • Hybrid working and a supportive, purpose-driven culture.
  • Professional development opportunities through consultancy work and strategic programme leadership.

If you’re ready to lead Foodbuy’s next chapter in environmental responsibility and Net Zero progress, we would love to hear from you.
