We have an exciting opportunity for a Nature Reserves Ranger to join us!
This is a full-time, permanent role with hybrid working, and a salary of £24,895 - £28,132 per annum.
About us:
The Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead (RBWM) is set in the wider county of Berkshire, one of the most economically productive and innovative areas of the country. The borough council – a unitary authority - takes pride in its exceptional team of dedicated professionals who are passionate about providing quality services to the community. RBWM is a unique borough, with huge opportunity given its proximity to London and expanding business sectors, as well as being a major cultural and tourism area which includes international attractions such as Windsor Castle, Legoland and Ascot Racecourse.
Given our Royal connections, the eyes of the world are often on us, and we continue to rise to the challenge.
This is an excellent opportunity for an enthusiastic Nature Reserves Ranger to join our Natural Environment Team.
The Role:
The position focuses on enhancing biodiversity and connecting people with the natural environment through practical conservation tasks, education, projects, and partnerships. It involves delivering initiatives aligned with the Environment and Climate Strategy and Local Nature Recovery Strategy.
Your role will involve:
To deliver high quality environmental education to schools, community groups and residents to engage them with natural environment and provide them with the skills they require to act on the biodiversity crisis.
To organise volunteer groups to undertake works to improve the natural environment such as tree planting, hedge management or habitat creation.
To undertake practical conservation management across the Council’s nature reserves and wildlife sites.
Publicize conservation work via RBWM websites and social media.
Ensure compliance with safeguarding procedures for children and vulnerable adults.
What we are looking for:
To plan, prepare and present a diverse and borough wide programme of events and activities for schools, youth and community groups, other local groups and the public to educate and inform on the natural environment and wider sustainability issues.
To promote Braywick Nature Centre and its events and activities to maximise use by and value to schools, the public and local organisations. To co-ordinate publicity for events and activities, including preparation of promotional material to maximise awareness and to encourage media coverage when appropriate.
To promote community and volunteer involvement in the natural environment and improvement of the Borough’s nature reserves and wildlife sites through liaison with residents, community groups and other local organisations.
To assist the Natural Environment Manager and Senior Ranger to effectively manage the Council’s Nature Reserves and wildlife sites.
To promote and follow all Safeguarding procedures to ensure the protection of children and vulnerable adults.
To play an active role in the Sustainability and Climate Change Team, contributing to service planning and the implementation of its aims and objectives.
What we offer:
32 days annual leave
Flexible working including a hybrid working pattern for a better work-life balance.
Generous Local Government Pension scheme includes life cover (3 times of annual salary); and an Additional Voluntary Contribution (AVC) scheme to enhance your pension provision.
Free employee parking close to the offices.
Give As You Earn scheme.
Instant Reward Scheme to recognise and reward innovative achievement.
Employee Assistance Programme providing counselling, advice and information.
Access to discounts and deals with hundreds of retailers, including discounted gym memberships and travel deals.
RBWM values a collaborative and inclusive work environment, fostering creativity and innovation in all aspects of its operations. As an equal opportunities’ employer, we encourage applications from all as we believe diverse talent makes us stronger.
If you have a disability, are a current or former member of the armed forces or have been part of any formal care system up to the age of 25, you will be guaranteed an interview, should you meet the minimum requirements for the role.
Interview dates: week commencing 23/02/1016
