Job Purpose
We are seeking qualified Educational Psychologists to complete statutory psychological assessments for children and young people as part of the Education, Health and Care Needs Assessment (EHCNA) process.
The post holder will provide high-quality, evidence-based psychological advice through face-to-face assessment, consultation, and report writing, ensuring statutory timescales and professional standards are met.
Key Responsibilities
1. Statutory Assessment & Casework
Undertake face-to-face statutory psychological assessments of children and young people aged 0–25.
Complete high-quality psychological advice reports to support EHCNAs, in line with statutory guidance and professional standards.
Apply current psychological theory, research, and evidence-based practice to assessment and formulation.
Ensure the voice of the child and family is central to all assessment and reporting.
2. Professional Consultation & Communication
Communicate effectively with children, parents/carers, schools, and professionals face to face, over the phone, and in writing.
Provide clear, professional consultation to education settings and families during the assessment process.
Maintain accurate, timely, and defensible records.
3. Quality, Governance & Professional Practice
Deliver work to a consistently high professional and ethical standard, meeting statutory timescales.
Manage workload effectively, demonstrating the ability to prioritise and manage time across multiple assessments.
Maintain up-to-date knowledge of current psychological theory, research, and practice.
Participate in supervision and professional reflection where required.
4. Strategic & Service Contribution (where applicable)
Demonstrate the ability to think and work strategically, contributing to service improvement and best practice.
Evidence innovative practice in assessment, consultation, or reporting.
Where relevant, contribute to or operate within a traded Educational Psychology service model.
Person Specification
-Essential Qualifications & Registration
-An Honours Degree in Psychology, or equivalent acceptable for Graduate --Membership of the British Psychological Society.
Doctorate in Educational Psychology.
Current registration with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC).
Registered with the appropriate authority where applicable.
Essential Knowledge & Experience
Sound knowledge of psychological theory and practice.
Knowledge of current psychological theory and research relevant to educational settings.
Experience of working as a main scale Educational Psychologist, including:
Proven ability to deliver high-quality statutory casework
Ability to think and work strategically
Evidence of innovative and effective practice
Considerable experience working with children and/or young people and their families.
Ability to prioritise workload and manage time effectively.
Communication & Professional Skills
Ability to communicate effectively:
Face to face
Over the telephone
In professional written reports
Ability to work autonomously while adhering to service and statutory requirements.

*Experience of working within or delivering a traded Educational Psychology service model.
*Previous experience completing statutory EHCNA assessments under local authority arrangements.
