Summary
What skills and experience we're looking for
An Exciting Leadership Opportunity
Notley High School & Sixth Form is a school with real momentum. After significant change and development, we have achieved 100% subject specialist staffing and redesigned our curriculum to drive better outcomes for students. We are building on this progress, and we need talented science experts who want to be part of our continued improvement.
We are seeking an exceptional teacher to join our faculty leadership team as Deputy Head of Science - a role with genuine strategic responsibility and the flexibility to match your strengths to our needs. This role would suit an experienced practitioner and / or someone looking for their step into faculty leadership and management.
The Role
This is not a one-size-fits-all position. We are looking for the right person, and we will shape the role around your expertise.
• You will lead either:
• Key Stage 3 or Key Stage 4 - driving curriculum excellence, assessment rigor and outstanding outcomes across all three sciences, OR
• Biology, Chemistry or Physics - leading your specialist subject across KS3-KS5, developing cutting-edge pedagogy and inspiring students
Working alongside our Head of Science, you will play a central role in elevating teaching, learning and student achievement across the faculty.
About Us
Notley High School & Sixth Form serves a diverse community in Essex. We are comprehensive, inclusive, and committed to ensuring every student succeeds regardless of their starting point.
The school has undergone significant transformation in recent years:
• Stable, specialist staffing across all subjects
• A curriculum designed for depth, coherence and student success
• Rising standards and improving outcomes
• A culture of professional trust and evidence-based practice
• Strong strategic direction as part of Bridge Academy Trust
As part of Bridge Academy Trust - a 12-school Multi-Academy Trust - you will benefit from cross-trust collaboration, shared expertise, and genuine opportunities for career progression.
What Makes This Different?
Real Leadership Development: This is not a box-ticking middle leadership role. You will have genuine strategic responsibility, meaningful autonomy, and access to high-quality professional development including NPQ programmes and subject networks.
Collaboration Over Compliance: We believe in professional trust and evidence-based practice. You will be empowered to lead, not micromanaged or buried in bureaucracy.
Proper Investment: From laboratory facilities to digital resources, we invest in our science faculty so you can focus on what matters - great teaching and learning.
A School Making Progress: There is genuine energy here. Standards are rising, staff morale is strong, and we are seeing real impact from the improvements we have made. Join us now, and you will help shape our next chapter.
Career Progression: Clear pathways for development within the school, across the faculty, and throughout Bridge Academy Trust.
We Are Looking For Someone Who:
• Teaches outstanding science lessons - you are the teacher colleagues want to observe and students genuinely enjoy learning from
• Uses data intelligently - you do not just collect numbers; you analyse them, identify patterns, and implement interventions that work
• Builds strong relationships - with students, colleagues, and the wider school community
• Thinks strategically - you see the bigger picture while managing the details that matter
• Is solution-focused - you approach challenges constructively and maintain perspective under pressure
• Wants to develop as a leader - whether you are an experienced TLR holder or ready for your first leadership step, you are committed to your professional growth
