TeacherActive is delighted to be working in partnership with a specialist SEND provision in Rutland looking for multiple Student Support Mentors. This setting provides a highly supportive and therapeutic learning environment for young people with significant Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs.

The provision places pupil's individual needs at the centre of everything they do.

We are seeking passionate, resilient Student Support Mentors who are committed to making a genuine difference to the lives of vulnerable pupils. This is an excellent long‑term opportunity with the potential to become permanent for the right person.

The Opportunity

This role offers the chance to for a Student Support Mentor to contribute to a safe, nurturing, and therapeutic SEND provision where pupils receive tailored support to help them thrive academically, socially, and emotionally. You will work within a dedicated team that includes support staff, therapists, and wider professionals, ensuring each young person’s progress is celebrated and supported.

Your Role Will Include:

• Planning and delivering engaging, differentiated lessons for learners with SEMH needs
• Creating a calm, structured, and emotionally secure classroom environment
• Supporting pupils to achieve ability‑appropriate academic and developmental outcomes
• Implementing consistent behaviour management and de‑escalation strategies
• Monitoring progress and adapting approaches to meet individual needs
• Working collaboratively with support staff and the wider multi‑disciplinary team
• Supporting the emotional and social development of pupils
• Maintaining positive relationships with parents, carers, and colleagues
• Promoting pupil well-being and upholding all safeguarding requirements

Who We Are Looking For

You will bring empathy, patience, and a strong commitment to inclusive practice. In line with the child‑centred ethos reflected in the Student Support Mentor role, you will put the needs of the pupils first and work proactively to support them throughout their educational journey.

You will ideally have:

• Experience working with SEMH, SEND, or pupils with challenging behaviours
• Strong behaviour management and relationship-building skills
• A flexible, resilient, and adaptive approach
• A genuine passion for supporting vulnerable young people
