The Head of Capital Projects is a critical role in delivery of the Trusts strategic ambitions to be a world leading healthcare organisation. We are looking for a flexible and collaborative leader to work with multidisciplinary colleagues within and external to UCLH in delivery of a portfolio of schemes from conception to post project evaluation, including the management of the internal capital projects team and appointment and management of external consultants and contractors.
The postholder is responsible for providing strategic direction and management of the Trust’s construction operations and infrastructure projects, delivering the Trust strategic plan relating to capital projects with appropriate solutions on time and budget, which enable the effective delivery of health services.
The UCLH capital programme is complex covering all the UCLH hospital sites and clinical, research and teaching activities. The capital programme is typically over £30m per annum plus additional major investment projects, currently including the UCL Dementia Research Institute (of which
UCLH investment totals £10m) and UCLH Charity Bedford Passage project (of which UCLH investment totals £5m). The portfolio of schemes varies in complexity and value, with diverse funding sources including charitable, central funding and joint initiatives with partners in health.
The Head of Capital Projects is responsible for programme management of these capital construction projects and must ensure that all projects are carried out within budget and delivered on schedule, whilst maintaining quality standards and compliance with all relevant legislative and corporate guidelines and requirements, including Standing Financial Instructions. Duties.
The postholder is a senior member of the Strategy Directorate, leading senior level meetings such as Projects Approval Group (PAG), attending and participating at executive board level meetings such as Capital Investment Board (CIB), and deputising for the Director of Strategy as required.
