Ready to impact a better future?
As an Aircraft Technician Mechanical in our Serco Defence team, you’ll carry out maintenance on Viking and other contract‑related aircraft at RAF Syerston and other locations throughout the UK.
Here at Serco we support the development of the RAF’s next generation of aircrew, engineers and air traffic controllers through our unique contract with the Air Cadet organisation. We maintain and manage their fleet of gliders, and as one of our Aircraft Engineers, you’ll play a key role in keeping these aircraft operational and in the air.
What you’ll do as an Aircraft Technician Mechanical
You’ll be entrusted to:
- Carry out the responsibilities and duties of Support Staff in accordance with Serco GMS Military Regulation Publication (MRP) Part 145 Maintenance Organisation Exposition (MOE), Military Aviation Authority (MAA) MRP Part 145 and Regulatory Article (RA) 4801.
- Maintenance (preventive and corrective) and associated activities on Viking and other contract‑related aircraft at RAF Syerston and 2 Flying Training School (FTS) locations/Volunteer Gliding Squadrons (VGSs)/detachments throughout the UK.
- Participation in aircraft activities including but not limited to ground movement and preparation for transportation.
- Optimising output to meet the business needs and demonstrate commitment to Operational Excellence and Continuous Improvement.
- Carry out associated duties as directed by the business needs, such as but not limited to completion of Aviation Safety procedures (In‑Forms, DASORs etc), Narrative Fault Reporting (MOD Form 760 series), Unsatisfactory Feature Report for Military Air Environment Technical Information (MOD Form 765), Technical Queries and Quality procedures.
- Achieving and maintaining authorisations and currency.
- Remain current with all amendments to company standard operating procedures and all other relevant technical data provided.
Does this sound like you?
You’ll be a great fit for this role if you have…
- Be appropriately experienced and have completed, as a minimum, MOD Phase 2 technical training; or
- Be appropriately experienced and have completed suitable civilian training (civilian contractors only).
- Have experience in equivalent civilian industry or Armed Forces in a relevant trade group.
- Possess good fault diagnosis skills, demonstrating an understanding of aircraft systems.
- Technically competent.
- Hold full driving licence.
- Possess good communication skills both written and verbal.
- Be competent using IT.
- Ideally, have been previously employed within a Part 145 organisation.
- Ideally, have working knowledge of military or civilian aircraft maintenance documentation and publications.
- Because the aircraft are stationed around the UK you’ll not only need to travel away, which may involve several overnight stays, but you must also hold a full driving licence. You’ll also need to be medically fit to work in an aircraft engineering environment, with manual handling and aircraft rigging and de‑rigging (physically demanding) as part of the job.
