Junior Sister / Charge Nurse – Acute Medical Unit (AMU) -Wexham Park Hospital. Permanent and fixed term (12 month) roles

These are excellent opportunities for motivated and experienced nurses looking to develop their leadership skills within an acute and dynamic clinical setting.

AMU is a fast-paced, high-turnover environment, caring for patients with a wide range of acute medical conditions. As a Junior Sister/Charge Nurse, you will be a key member of the AMU leadership team, working closely alongside senior nurses, the matron, and the wider multidisciplinary team to support the delivery and ongoing development of AMU services.

This role is ideally suited to someone who thrives in an ever-changing clinical environment, demonstrates strong clinical judgement, and is passionate about delivering high-quality, compassionate, patient-centred care. You will contribute to maintaining high standards of nursing practice, supporting effective patient flow, and fostering a positive and supportive team culture.

The post offers the opportunity to further develop leadership and management skills while working within a well-established team with strong team dynamics. You will play an important role in supporting staff development, promoting best practice, and contributing to service improvement within the unit, ensuring patients and their families receive excellent care throughout their AMU journey.

Support the Senior Sisters/Charge Nurses and Matron in ensuring the delivery of excellent, compassionate care for patients, relatives, and visitors.

Undertake a variety of leadership roles, including Nurse in Charge of the unit or designated area.

Coordinate and navigate patient flow from the Emergency Department into AMU.

Plan, manage, direct, and evaluate nursing care for a defined caseload of patients.

Maintain and monitor high standards of care and professional practice to support the effective running of the unit.

Act as a professional role model, providing advice, guidance, and support to staff and students, helping them achieve their full potential.

Communicate effectively with patients, relatives, visitors, colleagues, and the multidisciplinary team.

Ensure all Trust policies, procedures, and directives are adhered to at ward level.

Participate in audits, quality improvement, and service development initiatives to enhance clinical practice and maintain standards.
