Summary

Our client, a leading provider of specialised educational services in Stockton-on-Tees, Durham, is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Autism Support Assistant to join their dynamic team. As an Autism Support Assistant, you will be responsible for providing personalised support and guidance to individuals with ASD, enabling them to thrive academically, socially, and emotionally. Your role will involve collaborating closely with our client's team of experienced educators, therapists, and support staff to implement individualised support strategies and foster an inclusive, learning-focused atmosphere.
- Assist students with ASD in a range of educational and recreational activities, ensuring their safety, comfort, and engagement throughout the day.
- Implement behaviour management strategies and provide positive reinforcement to help students develop self-regulation and social skills.
- Collaborate with the multidisciplinary team to create and regularly review individual support plans, ensuring they align with each student's unique needs and goals.
- Offer one-to-one or small group support to students, adapting teaching methods and materials to accommodate their learning preferences and sensory needs.
- Facilitate social interactions and model appropriate communication skills to help students build meaningful connections with their peers.
- Maintain detailed records and documentation regarding student progress, behavioural trends, and any relevant incidents or concerns.
- Participate in regular staff meetings, training sessions, and professional development opportunities to continuously enhance your knowledge and skills.
- Demonstrate a deep understanding and empathy for individuals with ASD, respecting their unique perspectives and celebrating their strengths.
- Minimum of 2 years' experience working with children or young adults with autism spectrum disorder or other special educational needs.
- A relevant qualification in education, psychology, social work, or a related field is preferred, but not essential.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build rapport and effectively engage with students, families, and colleagues.
- Demonstrated problem-solving abilities and a flexible, adaptable approach to supporting students with diverse needs.
- Excellent organisational and time-management skills, with the capacity to multitask and prioritise effectively.
- A genuine passion for making a positive impact on the lives of individuals with autism and a commitment to promoting their independence and well-being.
- Willingness to participate in ongoing training and professional development opportunities to stay up-to-date with best practices in autism support.
- A valid UK driving licence and the ability to travel to various locations within Stockton-on-Tees, Durham, as required.
