About the Role
A well-established, Bristol-based Control Systems engineering business is seeking an Electrical Design Engineer to join its growing workshop team. This is a hands-on design role within the Industrial Automation sector, offering the opportunity to work on genuinely bespoke systems rather than repetitive, copy-and-paste solutions. Projects range from individual control panels through to full turnkey automation solutions, from concept and design through to build, installation and commissioning.
The business delivers across a diverse portfolio including defence, nuclear, FMCG, special purpose machinery, IIoT, packaging and R&D. As part of the design team, you will be involved in hardware design, control panel layouts, system documentation and supporting software generation, working with modern tools and the latest technologies.
While the role is primarily office and workshop based in Bristol, there will be occasional site visits to support projects and engage directly with customers.
Key Responsibilities
- Electrical and control panel design for industrial automation systems
- Producing schematics, layouts and documentation using EPlan and/or AutoCAD
- Designing systems in compliance with relevant safety and electrical standards
- Supporting projects from concept through to commissioning
- Liaising with project engineers, panel builders and clients
- Contributing to design risk assessments and technical documentation
Required Skills & Experience
- 2–6 years’ experience in an electrical or control systems engineering role
- Proficiency with EPlan and/or AutoCAD
- Good understanding of machinery safety and standards such as BS EN 60204 and BS EN 13849-1
- Right to work in the UK
- Full UK driving licence
- Comfortable with occasional site visits
