Crynodeb

Harley Street Mental Health is a clinician-led service providing high-quality adult neurodevelopmental assessments across the UK. We deliver Adult Autism assessments via the NHS Right to Choose pathway and are expanding our team due to exceptional demand. Our aim is to provide a Harley Street standard of assessment, governance, and patient care to NHS patients, with clear outcomes and practical recommendations. We are seeking experienced clinicians who can independently complete the full adult autism diagnostic process, including interpretation of standardised tools (e.g. RAADS-R, CAT-Q, AQ-50) and structured clinical observation (e.g. ADOS-2 Module 4 or an appropriate documented alternative). This role suits clinicians who value thorough, defensible assessment and excellent report writing, while working flexibly within a supportive governance framework. Main duties and responsibilities You will: Conduct comprehensive adult autism diagnostic assessments, remotely and/or in person (Leeds), in line with service standards and recognised diagnostic frameworks (DSM/ICD as applicable). Complete end-to-end assessment activity including: clinical interview, functional impact, developmental history, and review of collateral information where available (family/partner informant, school/medical records). Review and interpret pre-assessment screening and questionnaires, including RAADS-R, CAT-Q, and AQ-50 (and other measures used by the service where relevant). Undertake and document behavioural observations relevant to autism assessment, including ADOS-2 Module 4 where trained and indicated, or an agreed alternative observational approach with a clear rationale. Consider differential diagnoses and co-occurring presentations (e.g. ADHD, anxiety disorders, OCD, PTSD/trauma presentations, depression, personality factors, learning disability, and social communication differences), and clearly document clinical reasoning. Produce high-quality written diagnostic reports within agreed timeframes, ensuring reports are clear, structured, evidence-based, and defensible, with practical recommendations and reasonable adjustments. Provide feedback sessions that are professional, sensitive, and patient-centred, including psychoeducation, signposting, and next-steps planning. Maintain accurate clinical records and uphold information governance, confidentiality, GDPR, and secure handling of clinical information. Follow HSMH clinical governance processes, including safeguarding procedures, risk escalation, and MDT discussion when clinically indicated. Communicate appropriately with referrers and primary care (with consent), including clear outcomes and recommendations. Essential criteria Registration with an appropriate professional body and eligibility to practise within scope: HCPC registered Clinical Psychologist or Counselling Psychologist, or GMC registered Psychiatrist / Specialty Doctor, or NMC registered Nurse with relevant competence and experience in adult autism assessment. Demonstrable experience completing adult autism assessments with confidence leading the process independently. Strong working knowledge of autism presentations in adults, including masking/camouflaging and the impact of co-morbid mental health conditions. Competence interpreting autism-related screening tools and integrating results into clinical formulation (including RAADS-R, CAT-Q, AQ-50). Ability to make and document structured clinical observations relevant to autism assessment, including ADOS-2 Module 4 or an appropriate alternative method. Excellent clinical report-writing skills, producing clear diagnostic rationale and practical recommendations. Commitment to neuro-affirming, respectful, and evidence-based practice. Appropriate professional indemnity cover (or willingness to obtain) for independent sessional work. Reliable access to a suitable private clinical environment for remote assessments (if remote working) and confidence using secure video platforms and electronic clinical systems. Desirable criteria ADOS-2 Module 4 training and recent experience administering and scoring. Experience using structured autism interviews/assessments (e.g. ADI-R, DISCO, 3Di or equivalent), where relevant to discipline and role. Experience working with complex presentations and culturally diverse populations, with an ability to adapt approach appropriately. Previous experience in NHS or NHS-commissioned pathways, including Right to Choose. What we offer Competitive rates of pay with regular assessment opportunities due to high service demand. Flexible working: remote assessments and/or in-person clinics in Leeds. Clear pathways, templates, and clinical governance support to maintain consistent quality. Professional, supportive team culture with access to clinical leadership and peer support. Opportunity to contribute to a growing national service delivering high-quality autism assessments for NHS patients. Safeguarding and pre-engagement checks HSMH is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of adults. Engagement is subject to appropriate checks including DBS, identity and right-to-work verification, professional registration, references, and compliance with information governance requirements.
