SEN Teaching Assistant (Ad-Hoc / Day-to-Day Cover)

Location: Stockport
Hours: Flexible - day-to-day, short-term and last-minute cover
Start: Immediate and ongoing

About the Role

We are seeking reliable and adaptable SEN Teaching Assistants to provide ad-hoc and day-to-day cover in primary schools across Stockport. Schools may require support at short notice, so flexibility and a positive, proactive attitude are key.

You may be supporting pupils with a range of Special Educational Needs, including SEMH, ADHD, ASD, and communication or sensory needs, either on a 1:1 basis or within small groups. Pupils may not always access learning in a traditional way, therefore creativity, relationship-building, and emotional awareness are essential.

Roles can vary daily, but strong systems are typically in place within schools, including behaviour plans, risk assessments, and clear guidance from class teachers, SENCOs, and senior leaders.

Why Ad-Hoc Work With Us?

This role is ideal if you are looking for flexibility and control over your working week.

- Choose which days you want to work

- Fit work around family, study, or other commitments

- Take on short-notice bookings or planned day-to-day cover

- Gain experience across different school settings without long-term commitment

Key Responsibilities

- Provide support to pupils with SEN on a 1:1 or small-group basis

- Support emotional regulation, engagement, and positive behaviour

- Follow school behaviour policies, support plans, and risk assessments

- Adapt activities to meet individual needs and learning styles

- Work collaboratively with class teachers and wider school teams

- Maintain a calm, nurturing, and flexible approach throughout the school day

The Ideal Candidate Will

- Have a good understanding of SEN, particularly SEMH and behaviour needs

- Be aligned with nurture-based and relational approaches

- Be confident stepping into new environments and adapting quickly

- Know when to follow guidance and when to ask for support

- Have good awareness of safeguarding, risk, and safety

- Enjoy working as part of a team, even when placements change day to day

- Be patient, resilient, and approachable

Essential & Desirable Criteria

Essential:

- Minimum CACHE Level 2 in Childcare (or equivalent)

Desirable:

- Experience working with children with SEND, including SEMH, ADHD, ASD, or related needs
